juliewoojulie · 20/05/2012 14:04

havent decided on a name for DS2, we like

Toby
Olly

i prefer Toby, DH prefers Olly!

DS1 is called Robbie, we like both names but worry about them being too popular!!

Any suggestions/opinions welcome!

I like both names but then again DP and his bro are Olly and Toby. I think Toby is currently the less popular of the two. What about Tobin to be different?

nizlopi · 20/05/2012 14:40

I liked Toby when I was pregnant, its a cute name

sonniboo · 20/05/2012 15:59

Toby (Tobias) and Ollie (Oliver) are both very very widely used already. Robbie is lovely and less common. I'd choose something less popular personally to go with Robbie. Perhaps a name that doesn't also end in 'ie' because Robbie and Ollie/Toby/Archie sounds too similar.

How about Robbie and Michael, Robbie and Quinn, Robbie and Dominic?

Beware of 'Toby Jug' particularly if there is any genetic likelihood of sticking out ears! Grin

Tobias is a lovely name, Toby IMO isn't.
Duncan is of course, a marvellous name. As is Gavin and Adrian. HTH.

tammy234 · 20/05/2012 16:43

I'm not keen on either Toby or Ollie (or any other faddy name like Archie, Albie, Alfie, etc) and I wouldn't combine Robbie with a similar name. Agree that more solid names like Adrian, Quentin, Dominic would go better with Robbie (is he Robert?).

AlpinePony · 20/05/2012 16:54

Toby and Ollie both a bit rugby rah rah rah and yet Toby also occupies the other end of the scale in the fey, drippy stakes. Have never met a nice one so am hugely biased! ;)

Toby is seen as a stand-alone name but I think I prefer it as a nickname Tobias. Someone suggested Tobin earlier - just reminds me of Peter Tobin (serial killer). Olly is just a nickname and a very common one at that. I believe Ollie is the more common spelling (charting in the top 100) so if you pick this name, beware that your little one will have to say 'Olly with a Y' more often than not. Toby is not as commonplace.

I agree that with a Robbie it is very tempting to use another adorable cutesy nickname but it's very twee. I also think it would be better if you were able to come up with a name that doesn't end in an 'ee' sound for this baby.

If I had a Robbie, I'd be thinking about using names like Luke, Ellis, Jonah, Adam, Nathan, Isaac, James, Logan, Sean.

Robbie & Luke
.
Robbie & Ellis.

Robbie & Jonah.

Robbie & Adam.

Robbie & Nathan.

Robbie & Isaac.

Robbie & James.

Robbie & Logan.

Robbie & Sean.

Personally, I think names like these sound better than Robbie & Olly, Robbie & Toby, Robbie & Alfie, Robbie & Harry, Robbie & Nicky, etc.

LittlePandaBear · 20/05/2012 17:14

Robbie and Mark
Robbie and Gary
Robbie and Jason
Robbie and Howard?

I disagee about Robbie and Toby sounding twee together due to similarity in sound. I actually quite like them together.

KittyMcAllister · 20/05/2012 17:32

Congrats on your DS2! You have great taste in names (biased because my DS is also a Robbie). Not as keen on Toby tho. If DD had been a boy he would've been James nn Jamie. Classic but also cute, just like Robbie. Good luck x

tiredteddy · 20/05/2012 17:35

Toby is a brilliant name!

2madboys · 20/05/2012 17:41

I have a Toby and think it's a great name. None of his friends have ever called him Toby Jug.
