I have posted on Casper/Caspar before and I do love it but would Caspian be a more liveable with/less like to be cause of ridicule option??

You'd be less likely to get ghost jokes. Makes me think of Narnia but that's a nice association.

My mum spent her whole life hating being called a 'made up name' (i know this isn't, entirely as it does have 'real world' relevance too), named after a character from a book. And this colours my judgement a bit. I love Caspian, but am not sure I could use it, iyswim. I also love Caspar, and could use it. So Caspar wins out for me.

Caspar is a great name and I dont see why it would be ridiculed. Caspian is frillier and I don't like it as much.

DottieRose · 19/05/2012 21:15

Trestle I totally agree that is a great name and should not be ridiculed but I have a feeling that while the majority of people are open minded those few that are not could make a child's life a nightmare over a name with such ahem ghostly associations!

Won't people have forgotten about the ghost film before too long though? :)

Caspar from the 3 Wise Men is a bit more of a classic Wink :)

DS2 plays cricket with a Caspian and tho DH made this face Hmm when he heard the name I rather like it and DS2 certainly doesn't ridicule it. Cass is a great cricketer which may help Wink

I wouldnt think of the characters for either of them. They are both nice names, but I prefer Caspian. It is edgier. Caspar is a bit boarding school. Agree Cass is a great nickname.

Stellan · 22/05/2012 10:21

Can't help but think of the Caspian Sea. It does sound pretty but I tend to incline towards names-that-have-traditionally-been-names so I much prefer Caspar. (In all honesty, Jasper is my favourite but that's probably getting further away from the sound/feel you like.)

Is Cassian pronounced cash-un or cass-see-un?

Psammead · 22/05/2012 11:03

Cassian is lovely.

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 11:22

Stellan Cassian can be pronounced either way u suggested however Cash un is the more Amreican pronunciation personally I prefer Cass see un

I prefer Cassius to Caspar. I think of Caspar as being in the same vein as Julian. I wouldn't go near a name that you think might be a cause of ridicule.

I prefer the sound of Caspian or Cassian (Cassius is too 'ss'y for me personally). Also worth being aware of the meaning of Cassius (having studied Latin I can't see past the meaning of cassus = empty, vain).

Caspar is nice too but in German a Kasper is a very well known clown.

It's gorgeous. I love it. It's one of my favourite names. Casper is great too though.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:19

I'd say

Cassius

Caspar

Caspian

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:19
