Like it

Dennis Thatcher.

Tend to think of it as a name of my dad's generation now in their 60s. But having said that dh's sister's partner is called Dennis, he's a German bloke aged about 26. Very very nice chap so I started seeing the name in a new light. There's nothing to dislike about it, just can't get over associations with friend's dads and Dennis the menace.

1950sHousewife · 16/05/2012 19:18

It's one of those names that seems to be okay to use here in north america, in a way that it doesn't in england - like Trevor or Derek.

Personally, I think there are 1001 names that are nicer and I think it sounds a bit bank manager or Dirty Den but it's not offensive or horrible.

MoonHare · 16/05/2012 19:38

Very middle aged and dull.

PacketOfBiscuits · 16/05/2012 19:39

It's quite old fashioned, not particularly keen.

QuickLookBusy · 16/05/2012 19:45

No-Dennis Waterman and Dirty Den.

peachypips · 16/05/2012 19:46

Everyone will call him Dennis the menace CONSTANTLY!

nizlopi · 16/05/2012 20:57

I really like it, I met a woman at a stay and play years ago who had named her son Dennis and complimented her on it, in fact

Limejelly · 16/05/2012 21:00

Thank you for all your comments. Not sure how I feel about it now.

Oh well, will stick it on the list with the others Smile

It's just not retro enough to be cool. Same as Keith, or Colin.

nizlopi · 16/05/2012 21:07

Colin is a brilliant name.

Clawdy · 17/05/2012 15:27

Awful. One of those boring 1950s names like Graham,Malcolm and Raymond. Can't you tell I know lots of them....

GinPalace · 17/05/2012 15:29

Love it. :)

squoosh · 17/05/2012 15:31

It's awful.

Really awful.

Limejelly · 17/05/2012 15:50

My son (5) is Dennis. The vast majority of people have been positive about his name.
Apart from a friend at work the other day, who said 'he has such a lovely face. It's a shame you called him Dennis'. Hmmm.

tummytickler · 06/06/2012 10:51

I really like it (but I also love Malcolm, Raymond, Desmond, COlin and Graham!)

Housewifefromheaven · 06/06/2012 10:58

Ha ha ha a ha! No.

PrettyInDecadence · 06/06/2012 13:37

I really like Dennis as I think nickname Denny is adorable. We have Denzel on our list with poss nickname Denny. For the record I also like Colin so feel free to ignore me :o

savoycabbage · 06/06/2012 13:42

When my Granny was a little girl (she was born in 1901) she was playing out with her friend and a neighbor called them over and asked them if they would take her new baby out in his pram.

They agreed and then she said "he hasn't been christened yet so will you take him up to the church and get him done"

So they said yes and what did she want to call him and she said

"you choose pet"

So they called him Dennis.Grin
