Savannah?

DH loves this name but I'm not sure. I think it might date. I'd like a name that would be fine for a child and an adult and also any job she might end up doing. Not sure that Savannah fits the bill on that either.

Too trendy, bit naff.
Tell him to think again.

axure · 15/05/2012 18:12

Sorry I don't like it, too like Chardonay.

iloveACK · 15/05/2012 18:13

I love it!

NaturalOptimist · 15/05/2012 18:13

Thanks PA, I agree

I hate to say this, but I hate it, but at least you want to use the "h". Maybe it is because I am a geologist, so I think of savannah as being a habitat / environment and it would never occur to anyone to call their child Tundra or Permafrost. Scientific reasoning aside, I also think it will date.

Disclaimer: my own children's names were top 15 and top 30 in the years they were born and could well be considered to be too boring, popular or short on this board. Each to their own.

usualsuspect · 15/05/2012 18:17

I like it

NaturalOptimist · 15/05/2012 18:21

Thanks everyone. My worst fears have been confirmed so will spend a happy hour with the baby name book when DD1 goes to bed and have a new shortlist ready for DH when he gets home from work. :)

Susannah has a similar sound, but more classic and less faddy maybe?

AKMD · 15/05/2012 18:25

I used to love Savannah but now that I'm actually in a position to use it, it has become too popular :(

lisaro · 15/05/2012 18:28

Gipsy weddings or stripper.

NaturalOptimist · 15/05/2012 18:28

Oh yes, love Susannah. Really pretty

I reckon it's going to be considered posh soon. The queen's great grandchildren by Peter Phillips (Princess Anne's son) are Savannah and Isla.

Stellan · 15/05/2012 19:35

Bit of a guilty pleasure sort of name for me. Not sure I'd actually use it but quite like it.

The Queen's first great-grandchild is named Savannah...

MarySA · 15/05/2012 19:38

I have to admit I quite like it. I don't usually like those more 'fashionable' names but this one is quite pretty. And after all if it's good enough for royals....!!

LulaPalooza · 15/05/2012 19:43

I quite like it, but it's a brand of cider in South Africa (without the H) so I could never use it (DH is a Saffa)

I also think it might date

LulaPalooza · 15/05/2012 19:45

Oh, and I know two adult Savannahs. Both are veh posh.

SodoffBaldrick · 15/05/2012 19:49

It's already dated hasn't it? It seems very 5-10 years ago to me. I'd lump it in with Sienna, India, etc.

I don't think the fact that Peter Phillip's daughters are called Savannah and Isla mean either name are going to become posh. Both those names have been on the charts for a few years now, and the trickle works in the other direction...

EBDTeacher · 15/05/2012 19:50

What about Anna or Hannah. You can't go wrong there.

I think I prefer Sienna or Vienna if your DH wants something 'different'.

yellowflowers · 15/05/2012 19:55

But Vienna is a kind of Jewish sausage

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 15/05/2012 20:09

I like it, don't think it's that popular and both posh and not posh adults/children with the name.

EBDTeacher · 15/05/2012 20:20

Ooh, I'd never heard of a Vienna sausage before. Just the place.

I really like the sound of the word. Might just be me.

sonniboo · 15/05/2012 20:24

There are German/Austrian sausages called Wiener Würstchen, meaning sausages of Wien (Vienna), but I doubt anyone would make that association in English.

NaturalOptimist · 16/05/2012 08:27

Thanks for your help everyone. I didn't realise the royal connection, that's interesting. We can't use any 'V' names as our surname starts with D!

BikeRunSki, years ago (c.1986) I remember seeing a birth notice in an Australian paper and two of the four children in the family were Tundra and Savannah, so it has been done!
