I am pregnant with DC2.

I love the name Bruno. I love love love it, and I know that its a marmite name but there is no point in trying to convince me that it is anything other than marvellous. Grin

DP said no :( and I have been sad about it ever since. However, he now says that if we can have Hercules as one of the middle names, we can have Bruno as first name. Now, I know that he may be trying to call my bluff (he insists he he being serious), but its growing on me. Grin

Help!

Bruno is certainly no the weirdest name mooted on this topic recently. I think it would be better with a more standard middle name, but actually after the birth announcement who's going to pay any attention to the middle name, so it probably doesn't matter.

Flimflammery · 12/05/2012 16:00

I knew a very lovely Bruno, he was French, language assistant at my brother's school, dark curly hair, John Lennon glasses, sweet natured, all-round nice guy. So therefore, I like the name. Especially said with a French accent.

ScrambledSmegs · 12/05/2012 16:16

I actually like it. You definitely need a 'normal' name between the two though!

DottieRose · 12/05/2012 16:30

I think Bruno Hercules is a fab name..... Kirstie Alsopp has a son with Hercules as a middle name!!

MarySA · 12/05/2012 16:46

Bruno is pretty bad. Hercules dire. Bruno Hercules. Unthinkable. Perhaps suitable for a bear cub but otherwise no.

cakeismysaviour · 12/05/2012 16:57

So I'm guessing that suggesting Bruno Troy Hercules will go down like a lead balloon then?! Grin

I know a little Bruno in Germany. Love it.

Who cares about middle names? No-one knows mine.

seeker · 12/05/2012 17:01

Bruno is ok if you must- but honestly, not Hercules. You are naming a human being who can't give consent. Take the job seriously.

And kids do know each other's second names- they make anagrams, and work out what their makes are backwards- all that sort of thing.

cakeismysaviour · 12/05/2012 17:07

Well this could all be irrelevant if I hava girl anyway!

For a girl we are thinking Elspeth Penelope Iris or Elspeth Aurellia Iris. :)

I like Bruno, but Hercules made me Grin

PercyFilth · 12/05/2012 17:33

Yes to Bruno. Say yes to Hercules, he may just be trying it on so call his bluff. If necessary, put something plain and uncontroversial in the middle, George, Henry or something.

:o at Troy

Indith · 12/05/2012 17:48

Do it do it do it!

Bruno is great. My lovely (French) uncle is called Bruno.

When my grandparents were all young and in love pre children they went to Germany for a conference and saw a little boy called Bruno running around. they thought he was so lovely and cute that they decided to call a future son of theirs Bruno :)

mopsyflopsy · 12/05/2012 17:49

Bruno is gorgeous! Hercules is fine imo - don't see why kids would find Hercules any more teaseworthy than other Greek names e.g. Atticus, Socrates, Athena etc. and I know a few kids with those names.

To be honest, the name that gets 'teased' at all in my kids school is Will/William with Willy. Otherwise kids are pretty accepting of most names (unless it's Popeye or Poohead or similar).

So yes, Bruno Hercules is great imo!

mopsyflopsy · 12/05/2012 17:50

And Bruno Hercules is much more interesting and memorable than Bruno George or Bruno Henry....imo.

nooka · 12/05/2012 18:19

But it's not memorable for good reasons. It's memorable because it is silly/pretentious. I don't particularly like Bruno, but there is nothing wrong with it, Hercules on the other hand is really ridiculous. I cannot believe that the OP's DP is doing anything other than emphasizing how much he doesn't like Bruno. Hercules is not just another Greek name, it is the name of a demi-god/hero. If you put it into Google you don't get anything other than references to the legend or trade names. No modern 'Hercules Jones' types at all.

I guess you could tone it down by adding a very classic run of the mill name in between but it seems to me a totally unnecessary burden for a child. My sister has a crazy third middle name. She doesn't use it and really doesn't thank our parents for it either.

PiedWagtail · 12/05/2012 18:35

Agree with the majority - Bruno nice, Hercules bonkers! And also, OP, Nicholas is not a run of the mill name Angry, and anyway, Bruno NIcholas Hercules sounds terrible!

BuntyPenfold · 12/05/2012 19:49

I like Bruno, not keen on Hercules.
I agree with the poster above, who said William is the most-teased name in school. I second that. Atticus and Willow (a boy) are not teased; maybe not what you'd expect.

LittlePandaBear · 12/05/2012 20:15

Not my taste but Bruno Mars gets away with it, never heard anyone make fun of his name!

No one would really be aware of his middle name anyway unless they were close family.

TuesdayNightClub · 12/05/2012 20:44

Elton John's chosen middle name is Hercules. Nuff said, really.

thisisyesterday · 12/05/2012 20:48

well I think it's bloody fabulous!

GoPoldark · 12/05/2012 20:48

Yes yes.

Bruno Torben Hercules

Bruno Dominic Hercules

Bruno Heath Hercules

Bruno Barnabas Hercules

Bruno Bruno Hercules?

Chesticles · 12/05/2012 21:51

I like it actually, and I'm normally a bit Hmm about adventurous names. Dilute it with a normal middle name and it's great

Bruno Andrew Hercules
Bruno James Hercules
Bruno George Hercules

Lovely

yellowflowers · 12/05/2012 22:50

I love it. Makes me think of Bruno Brookes, the voice of my childhood.

spammertime · 12/05/2012 23:04

I would bet my house that all the people who say that noone uses middle names have either no middle name, or a very safe choice

(speaks the person who hated her unusual middle name and used to dread the seemingly numerous amount of times it needed to be divulged at school)

seeker · 12/05/2012 23:12

Children are always asking each other their middle names. Ask your child what their best friend's middle name is- odds on they'll know!
