Hi, I posted some time ago under a different name (lost log-in details) about the problems we are having choosing a name for DC due to our comedy surname. Our name is a noun and is something footballers kick! Well, we are no further on as many of the girl's names we like seem to be problematic with our surname (boys named sorted). I really want to sort this out in my head as don't want to end up on the last minute saddling poor DD with a name that sounds ludicrous with our last name.

Our shortlist is as follows:

Beatrice
Molly
Lily
Edie
Jessica
Hannah

I guess my favourite is Beatrice and am finding it hard not to imagine DD as this but obviously it would sound silly with our surname if shortened to Bea. I also like Edie. Please could you give me your thoughts on all the names above with our surname as I want to make sure I've not missed anything glaringly obvious! Ah, to be called Smith .... Thanks

Go for another noun Grin

Summer
Paige
May
June
April
Hope
Faith
Charity

Grin Grin Grin

Sorry!

I actually like Beatrice with your last name and think Bebe as a nn would be greAT! Also love Susannah nn Suzie. Avoid names with too many ll s in it like Lily, Millie, Molly.

PercyFilth · 05/05/2012 14:08

Seriously some of those names sound fine. There are scores of nice names that would be perfectly OK.

PercyFilth · 05/05/2012 14:09

I was referring to scaevola's suggestions. :o

MoonHare · 05/05/2012 14:13

Out of all the names you've posted OP I think either Emily or Jessica would go best with your surname.

Psammead · 05/05/2012 14:17

Another vote for Jessica Smile

nickelhasababy · 05/05/2012 14:22

yes, something that doesn't make a -ble.

jessica is good, which means that similar:
emily
heather
erica
susannah
cassie
katherine
nicola
eleanor
elizabeth

noonar · 05/05/2012 14:26

eliza ball?

Littlefish · 05/05/2012 14:35

Definitely not Fiona, nickname Fee,

(Fee-ball/feeble)!

Happilymarried155 · 05/05/2012 19:48

I love Edie, wonderful name x

TheSockPuppet · 05/05/2012 19:51

I like Jessica the best :)

CarriMarie · 05/05/2012 19:55

Another vote for Jessica - sounds great with your surname.
Also like Jasmine and Cassandra.

rockinhippy · 05/05/2012 20:01

Jessica & Jasmine are the best of your choices so far, but I like Elisabeth, even NN it, with Betsy, or Betty sounds cute with your surname :)

smother · 05/05/2012 23:36

I agree with others that Jessica works best with this surname. Jess is a gorgeous nn too. Susannah is nice too.
I really don't think that you can use Hannah or Edie.
The more syllables the better, but you still have to love the name...
It could be worse - I know someone who is struggling to name DC with surname Nut....

Sarcalogos · 05/05/2012 23:47

Susannah ball is gorgeous.

RedHotPokers · 05/05/2012 23:57

Agree Jessica and Elizabeth go well. Like susannah and suzanne too.
I have 'l's in my surname so avoided names with 'l's in for my dcs iyswim (Molly, lily etc).

Dirtymistress · 06/05/2012 10:14

I had the same maiden name as your married name. My much improved surname is the best thing I got out of my miserable marriage to my twat of an ex-husband. Anyway...my name is Stephanie and I got 'fanny balls' all the way through school so whatever you do don't call her that. Oh and my Uncle is called Paul, and my gran was May....what were they thinking?!

McKayz · 06/05/2012 10:23

One of my school friends had that surname before she got married. She is called Jessica and was called Jezabel all through school. Even by some teachers. Very stupid as Jess and Ball don't make Jezabel but that's what some people are like.

Her gran is called Edith.

Frikadellen · 06/05/2012 10:45

Emily
Cassie
Millie
and Jessica are your best bets imo
