I think we like the name for our second son but I'm not sure what to do about the spelling. Go for phonetic so it will be easier for him to learn, or go for the traditional spelling?

I know one of each.

Fynn is much less common, and he finds everyone spells it wrong!

Nice name.

seeker · 04/05/2012 23:40

Finn is both easier and right!

MoonlightandRoses · 04/05/2012 23:43

Definitely Finn. To me 'Fynn just looks a bit contrived. If you wanted something a bit different, you could go for 'Fionn' (fi-yun) instead? Means the same thing, but is the Irish version.

MoonlightandRoses · 04/05/2012 23:44

Oh, and congratulations by the way!

EightiesChick · 04/05/2012 23:47

Finn. Fynn will look like you're desperate to be different, not matter how traditional it may be, and everyone will spel it wrong constantly. You'll spend years referring to your son as 'Fynn-that's-F-Y-N-N', as will he.

EightiesChick · 04/05/2012 23:48

SpelL, sorry

EllenParsons · 05/05/2012 01:39

Finn!

AllYoursBabooshka · 05/05/2012 01:57

Finn is a wonderful name.

Fynn looks odd.

Congrats!

randomimposter · 05/05/2012 07:35

I would assume Fynn was Flynn spelt wrong.

So Finn for me.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/05/2012 07:54

Finn is traditional is well , from old Norse it's not just derived from Fionn.
Fynn may look as if you have tried to be different.
As someone who had the Scandi spelling of a name it's a real pain to have to keep explaining.

culturevulture · 05/05/2012 08:01

I thought your second name said Flynn which I love.

Prefer the spelling Finn

MoonlightandRoses · 05/05/2012 10:19

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to imply Finn was derived from Fionn, just that the meaning was the same.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/05/2012 10:41

Moonlight - sorry didn't mean that from what you said Smile

VickyandAlistair · 05/05/2012 12:56

Flynn is a lovely name, if you are going with Finn though, then the 'Finn' spelling is better

Psammead · 05/05/2012 14:18

Another one for Finn.

planetpotty · 05/05/2012 16:42

Finn Smile

FrauGrau · 05/05/2012 21:06

Finn. Fynn looks like you forgot the L in Flynn.

Alpinechildcare · 10/05/2012 21:13

Looks like it's Finn then. Actually I've been looking up the variations and I quite like the name Finnian then he can be Finn for short but use Finnian if he wants to when he's older.

welovesausagedogs · 10/05/2012 21:37

Finn is much easier to spell and teachers will at least spell it right.

welovesausagedogs · 10/05/2012 21:37

And i really like Finnian as names go, also like Finbar

thegreylady · 11/05/2012 08:53

Finnian's rainbow :-)
How are things in Gloccamora?
Lovely name but Finn is my favourite.

Lannie33 · 11/05/2012 17:14
