It has become very widely used that I find it a little dull.

mazzarooni · 03/05/2012 22:06

Love it my daughter is called Amelie!!

shoobidoo · 03/05/2012 22:15

Very trendy and a little overused imo - probably made popular by the French film a few years ago.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 03/05/2012 22:17

Hate it.

It's a try hard alternative to Emily and it's far too popular.

BBQJuly · 03/05/2012 23:03

Prefer Amelia, it sounds more classic.

Acer76 · 03/05/2012 23:16

Yes I do like it, much more interesting than, say Emily.

CarriMarie · 03/05/2012 23:57

I love the name Amelie, it's prettier and much less common (popular) around here (S W London/Surrey) than Amelia. I like Emily too but it's also got very popular round here.

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:17

It's ok but a bit "of the moment" IMO. Personally prefer Emily or Emilia despite popularity (not keen on Amelia..weird I know!)...

Daya · 04/05/2012 11:52

I do really like it. More than Amelia, though I agree it got popular very fast out of nowhere and those types of names usually date.

rachel234 · 04/05/2012 11:55

There are so many little Amelie/Emily/Emilia/Amelia/Milly names around at the moment that I'd personally wouldn't choose it.

MarySA · 04/05/2012 11:55

It's too trendy and pretentious. (Hope I got the spelling right!) I much prefer Emilia. Not so keen on Emily and Amelia.

MonaLotte · 04/05/2012 11:56

I like it

rachel234 · 04/05/2012 11:59

pretentious? pretending to be what? Confused?

IsAnyoneListening · 04/05/2012 12:04

French perhaps Wink

squoosh · 04/05/2012 12:09

Very similar to Emily, I'd imagine there'd be a lot of 'No, not Emily, it's Amelie. . . . no Amelie, A.M.E.L.I.E'

Plus it reminds me of the awful film of the same name. God that was twee!

upahill · 04/05/2012 12:11

It's very popular at the moment. verging on common

CaramelFreddo · 04/05/2012 12:28

Hate it

abbypumpkin · 04/05/2012 12:33

I hate it. It's like someone's called Emily but pronouncing it wrong-sorry

gnocci · 04/05/2012 13:34

Way way way way WAAAAAAAY too popular :)

What about Evelyn, Alverna, Avelyn, Ottilia, Ophelia instead?

Lexiesgirl · 04/05/2012 13:37

Hugely popular at the moment around my way. Other than that its a pretty name - depends where you stand on your DD possibly being one of a few Amelia/Amelie's etc

PercyFilth · 04/05/2012 13:39

Only if you're French.

The French aside, this is a name that people pounced upon to be "different", and instead found that everyone else had had the same idea.

EllenParsons · 04/05/2012 22:28

I like it! Probably wouldn't dare to use it myself as I think it is a bit of a faddy name that will date to these few years, but it does sound lovely.

DustyDen · 04/05/2012 22:47

Faddy. It will sound like you named her after the film, even if you didn't.

MrsLetch · 05/05/2012 15:37

Love it, but I don't think I would use it - too popular and too associated with the film. As a name, I think it will date terribly.

CarriMarie · 05/05/2012 16:05

I think I must be the only person in the world who had never heard of this film before I came here (don't go to cinema much). I just think that when you know a lovely little girl with a name it outweighs any negative connection. Amelia and Emily were both top 10 names last year but Amelie wasn't even in the top 20, so not that popular.
