What do you think of the name Cameron for a boy? I quite like it but DH isn't sure. Does it make you think of David Cameron? Thanks

I don't think of David Cameron, but it does seem a very sensible sort of name. The kind of boy who wears brown cord slacks and helps old ladies across the road, and doesn't have a girlfriend until his late twenties. Difficult to shorten, too - Ron maybe?

5madthings · 03/05/2012 20:14

i know an 8yr old Cameron and he is lovely, its a name i hadnt heard in a while but i do like it :) i think it gets shortened to cam by friends at school.

and NO it doesnt make the think of dc!

BibiBelle · 03/05/2012 20:25

are you in scotland? if so he'll be one of 3/4/5 in his class but if that doesn't bother you it's nice Smile

PuppyMonkey · 03/05/2012 20:25

Bit dull?

DogEared · 03/05/2012 20:28

Yes, David Cameron.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 03/05/2012 22:02

Makes me think of my gorgeous DS1 Smile and never of vile DC. It's not dull! He gets called Cam much of the time, but not always. He is not particularly sensible, but then he is only 6 Grin.

abigboydidit · 03/05/2012 22:11

Very popular here in Scotland. In DS's nursery group there are 3 Cameron's, 2 Callum's and an Elliot.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 03/05/2012 22:20

I like it. I know a really, really sweet little Cameron and slightly older one who is a is trouble. It doesn't make me think of David Cameron.

CarriMarie · 04/05/2012 00:01

I know a really gorgeous baby Cameron and it doesn't make me think of DC atall.

WandaDoff · 04/05/2012 00:06

My 12 year old Cameron, is a cheeky little sod & he was named long before David Cameron was in the public eye.

He's always been known as Cammy, only seems to be Cameron when he is in trouble.

EllenParsons · 04/05/2012 02:45

I like it. I do think of David Cameron but he is not my first thought when I hear it and I quite like David Cameron anyway, so personally he wouldn't put me off the name.

Thumbwitch · 04/05/2012 03:47

Nice name if you're Scottish, my second thought was David Scameron so not that bad a reminder - anyway he'll be gone soon enough (FX) so your baby shouldn't suffer by association! Wink

Alligatorpie · 04/05/2012 08:09

I like it.

usualsuspect · 04/05/2012 08:12

Great name

ButterPecanMuffin · 04/05/2012 08:25

I do think of David Cameron, but lets face it, he's soon going to be gone!

Surf25 · 04/05/2012 08:44

I like it and even if you are in Scotland, I think it's a regional thing as I don't know any baby/toddler/pre-school Camerons in dd's nursery groups or playgroups etc...if you love it go for it! And don't worry about the DC thing - the association people make at the moment won't last!

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:00

I quite like it (don't think of David Cameron at all but that wouldn't be a negative for me anyway...). I live abroad in a "new world" country and Cameron along with Conor/Connor/Aidan/Callum etc.. are very popular...

talkingnonsense · 04/05/2012 09:02

It's an anagram of romance.

Positiveplus · 04/05/2012 09:03

What ButterPecanMuffin said!! Smile

abbypumpkin · 04/05/2012 12:46

I didn't think of David Cameron. It's nice, every knows it, can spell it but not overly common

InnitDoh · 04/05/2012 12:47

I don't like it. It has that surname-ey feel that i dislike, personally.

ripsishere · 04/05/2012 12:52

I know of a 22 YO who is also called Camera man, and several in various bits of the world aged 11ish.
It's not a bad name, but not a great name.
