Boys names with our surname!

Ok we have an awkward surname - Boddy.

Doing ok with girls names we like, (we have a lucy) Amber, Eloise, Isla, Elisha or Laila. But boys names we are struggling. Dh doesn't like names like Thomas or William, Sam or any any of the Alfie's, Freddie's, etc. but nothing seems to 'flow' with our surname. Possible like Isaac, and I'd quite like Arthur or Adrian as middle names (too honour my grandfaer and father respectively) but nothing is jumping out at us. Anyone help?

Elisha is a boy's name. It has recently also been used for girls, but I would think of it primarily as a male name.
Or Elijah?

Arthur Boddy is better than none? Sorry ....

tammytoby · 30/04/2012 12:17

Well, I'd avoid Sam Boddy or Noah Boddy Grin.

I'd also avoid names ending in -y or -ie (e.g. Charlie Boddy or Alfie Boddy).

How about these:
James Boddy
Quentin Boddy
Adrian Boddy

shoobidoo · 30/04/2012 15:03

Isaac Boddy works well imo, as does Adrian Boddy. I'd probably choose a 2 syllable name, not ending in -ie/-y.

Oh my goodness tammytoby, it took me a while to see what you meant there, Sam and Noah are names I liked duh!!! Thank you!

I didn't know Elisha was a boys name, just thought it sounded pretty, hmm. Definitely against the 'ie' sound at the end, although it sort of works for dd lucy. Maybe not for a boy. I do admit I like Arthur, does it sound odd though like 'half a body'?

I also like Elijah, but I don't think hubby will roll with that one.

I just can't like Adrian as a first name, which makes me sad as it was my dads.

I think 3 syllables work well:

Alexander
Jonathon
Oliver
Christopher

I guess you have to think about initials - A Boddy and P Boddy perhaps not the best.

Good luck with your choice!

LittlePandaBear · 30/04/2012 21:02

Don't have initials N E Boddy Smile

And I'm not convinced that Isaac works. Sounds a bit like I suck body (sorry!)

I think Tammy's suggestions sound good, names ending in an N. Sebastian?

MadameChinLegs · 30/04/2012 21:05

Scott
daniel
henry
fergus

StrawberryMojito · 30/04/2012 21:07

Joshua/Josh Boddy
Ethan Boddy
Alex Boddy
Zachary Boddy
James Boddy

bigbluebump · 30/04/2012 21:21

The problem with 3 syllable names (e.g. Oliver, Jonathan) is that they end up shortened to Olly Boddy or Johnny Boddy - not great imo.

Also beware of Sebastian Boddy becoming Seb Boddy Hmm

I agree that 2 syllable names ending in -n sound good
Quentin Boddy (or even shortened to Quinn Boddy)
Ethan Boddy
Tristan Boddy
Nathan Boddy

What do you guys think of Miles?

Miles Arthur Boddy

OP posts:
shoobidoo · 01/06/2012 15:14

I'd avoid names ending in 's'. Miles Boddy sounds like Mile's body Grin.

Imo names ending in a consonant sound good with Boddy - Nathan Boddy, Quentin Boddy, Isaac Boddy.

Zebraspots · 01/06/2012 15:17

Ooh good point. Dammit.

The problem is neither of us can agree on anything!
