It would be a nn for Eleanora. :)

Well it still makes me think of Nora Batty but I guess the current child generation won't have a clue who she is so it's probably ok and I've just seen it's you CY so will be totally irrelevant to you anyway - here she is so you know!
If your child is likely to have a big nose, I'd give it a miss though - Nosey Nora is a too-convenient nickname (again not sure about in the US though)

Eleanora is a beautiful name - just not too keen on Nora as a nn for it. :)

CheerfulYank · 30/04/2012 03:42

That picture made me LOL Thumb :o

Eleanora is a must-use for a few reasons if I ever have a DD and all the other nn are a bit overused here.

Plus, I have a Sam so can't use Ella :)

Lol at Sam n Ella! I think Nora is lovely as a nn but a step too far in old lady dept for the actual name on the bc.

Thumbwitch · 30/04/2012 03:59

Ellie is an acceptable nn for Eleanora, as is Lennie (although that might be too masculine for you?) and I'm sure Norah Jones is probably a better role model than Nora Batty Wink
(did you check out the stockings? anyone with baggy socks/tights etc. in our yoof was told they had "nora batty legs" Grin)

CheerfulYank · 30/04/2012 04:43

You can't spit without hitting an Ellie around these parts though. It is a nice name, but too common here :)

Love Nora and also Eleanora. I know three Noras, all in the DCs's school - well one will be there in a few years, and knew a gorgeous one growing up, a sort of alternative grandmother/fairy godmother to me.

(And I also LOVE Lennie or Lenny for a girl)

squoosh · 30/04/2012 10:49

Love it.

I think of Nora Barnacle, James Joyce's wife and muse.

scarlettsmummy2 · 30/04/2012 10:51

I really like it.

minipie · 30/04/2012 10:59

Eleonora is lovely but I find Nora a bit too frumpy/old ladyish for my liking.

How about Nell as an alternative nn?

ffscatmove · 30/04/2012 11:15

I really like Nora as a nn (& I know who Nora Batty is!) and also Nell... Eleanora is also lovely so go for it!

AvengingGerbil · 30/04/2012 11:19

Bloody Nora is/was (I may just be ancient) an alternative exclamation for 'bloody hell'. That's what I'd think of.

Devora · 30/04/2012 11:26

I really like it.

Ruddy.

typicalvirgo · 30/04/2012 12:48

I know a 40 + year old Norah.

I always thought it was a terribly old fashioned name and I would have hated it.

ripsishere · 30/04/2012 12:52

Hideous. Eleanora is gorgeous though

Psammead · 30/04/2012 13:12

I like Nora, and love Eleanora!

furmulaic · 30/04/2012 14:18

I like Eleanora.

I really like Nora - simple and sweet IMO, not old ladyish.

glastocat · 30/04/2012 19:36

Ever long that is what I was hinting at Grin

I love Norah (that spelling), we can't use it sadly - surname begins with N, and is one syllable. It'd be ridiculous Sad I really like the name.
