Sister Alice for Isla?

I'm sorry, I'm back again! We've had various names jostling for number one spot for DC3 (a girl)...and we keep coming back to Alice. We both really like it...just DC2 is Isla, and they do sound similar.

On a previous straw poll 1/2 said fine, 1/2 said 'no too similar esp if you're not sure'. We both really like it (he's vetoing Penelope and I'm vetoing Heidi). The slight similarity is the only problem. :(

I'd be grateful for another round of feedback!

I don't think Alice is too similar to Isla and it's a lovely name (much better than Penelope or Heidi). Go for it!

I think they are fine in terms of similarity. I have noticed that Alice is becoming a very popular name - multiple Alices in my baby classes. This might not bother you thou! For what its worth, I think it is a classic, pretty name ( but a little dull). OTHO I really like Heidi and Penny (Penelope)

BBQJuly · 26/04/2012 22:44

I think they're too similar - they're virtually anagrams (well with the spelling Alis that is! But they contain similar sounds). I think something with a bit more contrast would work well.

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2012 22:49

I think they are fine together. I am an Alice, DNiece is Isla, has never been a problem! They may contain similar letters, but different sounds - Isla has hard EYE, Alice has soft "i".

mummybare · 26/04/2012 22:54

I don't think they are too similar at all! And they are both lovely names. If you keep coming back to Alice and you both love it then go for it, I say.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 26/04/2012 23:34

I love the name Alice and I know an Alice who has a baby sister Isla and it never crossed my mind that the names were too similar.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 27/04/2012 07:08

I think they are fine together, and actually sound quite nice. They go much better imo than Penelope or Heidi. Alice is a lovely name (as is Isla!)

hubbahubster · 27/04/2012 07:51

Heidi sounds more like Isla IMO, it's the hard I sound. Saying them together is quite awkward. Alice works better. Really not a fan of Penelope, sorry, it's a bit frumpy and is a mouthful compared to Isla (which is beautiful BTW!).

I'm sure you've already had loads of other suggestions, but similar names are... Eva/Evie/Eve, Ada, Ava, Adele, Ella, Etta, Effie...

chocolatecoffinplease · 27/04/2012 08:00

Both beautiful names. But I tried calling out to two imaginary dcs (as you do Blush ), and -well try it!! Really similar, my 2 (real dcs) couldn't have distinguished who was being called.

Stellan · 27/04/2012 08:17

Isla & Alice is fine, Isla & Heidi too similar.

It doesn't have quite the classic feel of Alice but you could always go with Isla & Alison to differentiate further. Probably fewer baby Alisons around than Alices!

If it helps, female siblings of Islas announced in the Telegraph in recent years include: Poppy, Talulah, Mia, Katie, Emily, Phoebe, Florence, Willa, Cicely, Maisie, Molly, Clover, Tana, Clementine, Thalia, Rose, Lily, Isis, Ella, Flora, Zara, Honor, Imogen, Lauren, Sophie, Martha, Holly, Rosanna, Ella, Amélie, Amber, Camilla, Rosie, Evie, Daisy, Breagha, Lilla, Kirsty...

If someone can get away with an Isla and an Isis and an Isla and an Ella, I reckon you can get away with an Isla and an Alice!

blackteaplease · 27/04/2012 08:23

Ooh. I am pondering the same thing today. I love Alice but it is my bf name. I am leaning towards hazel. Really want eilidh but dh has vetoed on grounds of pronunciation as we are in devon.

Good luck choosing and let me know your finaldecison so i can pinch it

welovesausagedogs · 27/04/2012 08:33

I like Alice and Isla - go for it

sydenhamhiller · 27/04/2012 13:43

Thanks everyone.

I was going to suggest Alison as well. Don't know about not being classic, but it is certainly a very old name as it appears in Chaucer (The Miller's Tale Wink)

mollymole · 27/04/2012 14:08

What about Alicia, goes well with Isla
