a sister for Orla

Twenty week scan today and DC2 is a girl (although lying awkwardly so sonographer said to keep receipts for pink stuff just in case!) so need some name suggestions that go with DD1's name which is Orla.

I thought we'd already got it down to two names - Clara and Nina - but now DH says he's not sure.

I also love Flora but can't use that as don't want rhyming sibling names. We also want to steer clear of another O name but don't mind an alliterative name for a girl.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I'd go for Nina out of those. I think the R, L and A in Clara make it too similar to Orla. How about Cara instead? Sounds less similar without the L. Flora is virtually an anagram of Orla.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 26/04/2012 23:46

Clara, Nina and Flora are all nice names, but all too similar to Orla imo.

I'd look for something that doesn't end in 'uh'.

How about;

Niamh
Grace
Alice
Nancy

welovesausagedogs · 26/04/2012 23:55

What about:
Lola
Isla
Iona
Erin
Maeve
Edie
Evie
Rae
Maya
Amba
Rosa
Tullulah
Esme

Personally i like Orla and Erin or Orla and Iona best

Flora is odd with Orla.

I ^love Clara and Nina.

Irish names that would be a nice match, imo: Sorcha, Ciara, Roisin.

playftseforme · 27/04/2012 11:14

Orla & Erin

craftynclothy · 27/04/2012 11:40

I've got an Erin and an Orla.

mamasin · 27/04/2012 16:34

Réail tín (all one word, just broke it up in case someone searches me Grin ( pronounced "rail teen") meaning little star, I've got one!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/04/2012 16:38

If I had another DD she would be Aine.

mamasin, I LOVE Realtin. But it does look wrong with no fadas.

comelywench · 27/04/2012 17:52

This might be left-of-field, but I think Catherine, shortened to Katie would be nice. Orla and Katie sounds good to me anyway.

MaisieM · 27/04/2012 19:30

I know two sisters called Orla and Nessa.

MamaLazarou · 27/04/2012 19:30

Una?

wolvesdidit · 27/04/2012 19:33

Luna
Lyra
Peonie

MamaGeekChic · 27/04/2012 19:34

Congratulations! I have an Orla and my short list for imaginary DD2 is:

Anya
Freya
Nina
Lois
Alexa
Elena

I'm sure there was one more but my brain is frazzled tonight...

DesperatelySeekingDistraction · 27/04/2012 19:58

Thanks everyone. When we were expecting DD1 we narrowed it down to Orla and Niamh so it seems odd to me to call DD2 a name we "rejected" for DD1, however DH is still keen on it. We had considered Esme for DD1 but discounted it due to the Esmee / Esmay pronunciation issues.

Erin and Aine also were on the shortlist this time and we're pondering them again. I love Aine but am having major doubts because of the pronunciation and spelling issues with a beautiful but not well used Irish name for girl growing up in the North West of England. Out of interest, if you saw the name Aine how would you think it is pronounced?

The original list for DD2 also included Anwen, Nia and Cara. Nia and Cara were crossed off as they don't seem like complete names to me (because I love Nina and Clara probably!) and Anwen was eliminated because of the way some very close relatives would pronounce it with their accent.

Reailtin is lovely, but the potential for missing / incorrectly placed fadas and the possible spelling / pronunciation issues means it is a no for us.

Emma we love but is name of a very good friend and I'd worry that other close friends may feel left out!

I also love Aoife but DH doesn't.

May have to start a thread about pronunciation of Aine!

I like Aine (I'd pronounce it Awnya) but prefer Niamh with Orla. I know three sisters Niamh, neasa (pr Nassa) and Orla and think they all go well together. I'm in NW too. Have another friend with a Millie and Orla, whilst not the biggest fan of the name Millie I think it goes well with Orla.

chipmonkey · 27/04/2012 20:49

Well, even the uneducated British should be able to manage to pronounce Aine.Wink
