Irish boys names

So far we've pretty much decided on Fionnuala if we have a DD (although we're yet to get a middle name) but finding a nice name that hasn't been used already by close family is hard. We already have two DSs who are Cormac and Sé (although do regret the spelling of DS2's name as everyone forgets the fada) but the problem lies with the fact our favourite name, Dara, has already been used.

Could you suggest some nice Irish names that are both easily pronounceable and spellable in England (preferably with no fadas!).

Fintan, Senan, Colum, Kian/Cian, Killian/Cillian, Lorcan, Ronan, Enda, Seamus, Aidan, Kieran, Malachy, Liam, Rory, Niall, Ultan, Eamon

Whoops just reread your post and see you have a Sé already so Seamus wouldn't really be a good choice Wink

Thumbwitch · 26/04/2012 07:26

Just don't choose Erin. It's unisex in Ireland but pretty much mostly a girl's name everywhere else - it's a bit of a burden for a bloke!

Stellan · 26/04/2012 08:37

Haven't come across Sé before; it is pronounce 'shay'?

Some good suggestions here so I haven't got anything to add!

parmo · 26/04/2012 17:04

Yep, it's pronounced Shay. I really wish we had gone with the anglicised spelling but hey ho.

There are some really lovely names on that list. I really love Ronan, Aidan and Eoin and they haven't been used yet!

LOVE the name eoin. and senan, so cute!

CheerfulYank · 26/04/2012 19:22

I love Declan. Or Deaglan.

parmo · 26/04/2012 21:55

Finbar is lovely, although I reckon everyone would just assume that he was one of the billions of Finlay/Finleys.

I love Malachi

iloveACK · 26/04/2012 22:49

Parmo - youve picked my favourite names as Fionnuala is my favourite ever girls names (with Aoife a close second) & Cormac & Darragh for the boys! I've never used any of them but wish I'd had the opportunity!

Sorry, not much help, but I do also like Declan, Malachy, Connor & Casey. Good luck choosing Grin

taczilla · 26/04/2012 22:53

Turlough.
Pauric.

Migsy1 · 26/04/2012 22:55

I like Oran, Malachy, Niall, Conor, Padraig, Ronan and Aidan. What about Patrick or does it have to be Padraig to be Irish? I can't help thinking of Viz when I hear the name Finbar.

parmo · 26/04/2012 23:00

Already a Patrick in the family annoyingly as it is lovely :(

OP posts:
LuckyLuckyMe · 27/04/2012 00:02

Would you get away with Padraig instead of Patrick?
I love Olan and Oran.

mathanxiety · 27/04/2012 03:24

Barra is nice instead of Finbar or Barry (always Manilow to me unfortunately)

NapaCab · 27/04/2012 04:10

Aidan is becoming more widely known these days and also Liam (possibly due to Liam Neeson?).

They're both really nice, solid names and easily pronounced in English.

Migsy1 · 27/04/2012 07:40

...or Liam Gallagher?
