We are still on the search for a boys name! Is Milo popular in the UK? What are your thoughts on it? I love it and I am trying to convince my husband it is not just a name of chocolate milk!

WipsGlitter · 25/04/2012 08:31

I love it, but it is growing in popularity.

Bunbaker · 25/04/2012 08:32

Or a Tweeny. Is it still on the TV these days?

Having said that, I like the name.

SucksToBeMe · 25/04/2012 08:35

I think of it as a dogs name. It is a lovely name though.

Bellaholland · 25/04/2012 08:35

Oh yeah! Tweenies! I knew I heard it somewhere! I am
Not sure if it is on tv still?

Prefer Miles

mamalovebird · 25/04/2012 08:44

Love it. Was in our hat. Miles was also a contender but never made it into the hat.

mayanna123 · 25/04/2012 08:57

this is Milo to me (and I suspect many others):
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_(drink)

Bellaholland · 25/04/2012 09:25

Mayanna, yes this is my husbands point but I am wondering really how many
People do make that connection?

Tweenies come to my mind. The chocolate drink connection depends where you live, I think as it is not sold in all countries, I think.

Bonsoir · 25/04/2012 10:04

I love names that end in -o for boys. Milo, Bruno, Cosmo...

BigusBumus · 25/04/2012 10:07

I have a Miles who is 9. He could have been a Milo but it didn't go with the surname. I don't think Tweenies or choc milk. It's just a nice, relatively upmarket name.

hodsno1 · 25/04/2012 13:27

I was also thinking of that name, I LOVE IT!!! :o

Spoutlet · 25/04/2012 13:41

Milo has been one of my potential baby names since reading this book many many moons ago - get a copy as it's a great: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Tollbooth. Unfortunately, DH isn't at all keen on the name and so it never made the list for DC1 (was a DD anyway) and isn't on our list for DC2 Sad. I never think of either the drink or the Tweenies when I hear this name.

SuzysZoo · 25/04/2012 13:47

Chocolate milk or Tweenie. Not really a serious name is it? Surf dude instead of company director, but hey, maybe he/you would prefer the former!

Beamur · 25/04/2012 13:48

I'm not so keen, it's a bit faddy. No offence to all the lovely little Milos out there!

MarySA · 25/04/2012 15:37

Not keen I'm afraid. It sounds really twee and faddy.

tammytoby · 25/04/2012 15:38

I think of the Chocolate Drink, I'm afraid. It is not a name that would travel well into other languages/countries imo.

CaptainHetty · 25/04/2012 15:54

I automatically think of the Tweenies (it is still on, my daughter watches it on Cbeebies) but, that said, I do think it's a nice name.

oikopolis · 25/04/2012 16:39

chocolate milk

SearchSquad · 25/04/2012 16:45

Milo is chocolate milk.

Takver · 25/04/2012 16:47

Never heard of the chocolate milk or the tweenie! To me its a nice name, would probably suggest slightly hippy (but in a good way) parents.

For some reason I don't like Miles as much (though totally illogical as I really like Giles)

The · 25/04/2012 16:47

I love it

MitrochondrialEve · 25/04/2012 16:55

Don't worry about the Tweenies. If everyone stopped using names because of the Tweenies, there would be no boys called Jake. I don't think that's going to happen!

I haven't heard of the chocolate milk, so that may factor more if you live in a country where the product is popular. If every kid drinks the stuff, I maybe wouldn't use the name.

tootssweet · 25/04/2012 16:59

I have one of the lovely Milo's! We obviously loved it. My partner had no idea about the chocolate milk - I had lived abroad and had seen / heard of it but tbh it didn't bother me. I had totally forgotten about the Tweenies but as PP said if that were the case then there would be no Jakes or Bellas (can't imagine Fizz is that popular but happy to be proven wrong.)

We feel it suits our ds, fits well with his surname and is one that we could all happily agree on.

monkeymayhem · 25/04/2012 17:03

DS who is two tomorrow is Milo. Still love it and have only ever had positive comments about it (but then not often poeple tell you your name choice is anything other than lovely!). If i lived in Australia then i wouldn't use it because of the drink. Think you can find negative connotations for any name and of people trot out the Tweenies line you can always say the same about Bella and Jake. Also don't know of another one in our local area but it is becoming more popular in London. If you love it, go for it!!
