Loveday for a girl's middle name

I have just come across the cornish name Loveday and thought it would make a lovely middle name. It is cornish and both my brother and I have Cornish middle names (me - Tace, him - Pascoe) as my family originated from there and I thought it would be a lovely tradition to uphold.

Is it too out there? I love explaining the heritage behind my middle name, but perhaps I am being daft?

The full name would be something like: Sylvia Loveday Harris...

My husband's god-daughter has Loveday as a middle name. Her father's middle name is Valentine so I think that might be the reasoning. I think it's adorable and not really out there compared to something like Rambo. Go for it.

ScottOfTheArseAntics · 20/04/2012 13:41

I should have added that a child at my son's school as the middle name Rambo - spelt like that not Rimabauld or anything posher :)

ScottOfTheArseAntics · 20/04/2012 13:42

.... or Rimbauld even. I'll shut up now.

Gorgeous-reminds me of Loveday Minette in 'The Little White Horse'

BulletProofMum · 20/04/2012 14:05

But can you think of her as an adult?

I agree with themildmanneredjanitor- I think it's lovely as a middle name. As a first name I'm notnot convinced. If you like it, go for it. Middle names are rarely used anyway (I have two and barely anyone knows what they are!) but it's a nice nod to your heritage that she will be proud of when she grows up.

mycatsaysach · 20/04/2012 15:34

how about garland - cornish too

Siddhartha · 20/04/2012 15:36

Gorgeous

Queenofcake · 20/04/2012 15:43

Yes its lovely and works well imo.

I knew a Loveday many years ago when I started my first job.

MoonHare · 20/04/2012 17:26

I've seen Loveday mentioned on MN a few times now, so it's not too out there. I really like it. Would make a great middle name especially considering your heritage.

oikopolis · 20/04/2012 21:23

thegreylady thank you so much for mentioning that book. brought back a flood of memories!

it's lovely as a middle name OP

margoandjerry · 20/04/2012 21:24

lovely.

MimsieD · 20/04/2012 21:25

I think unusual middle names are lovely. Go for it, especially as it means something in your family!

I quite like it but prob best as aiddle name.

I think it's a Chalet School name. On that theme I also like Evadne.

Whiteangel · 21/04/2012 11:53

I went to school with a Loveday, always thought it was unique and pretty. She is a strong character and wears it well. I think it is a beautiful choice for a middle name.

PoppyK · 21/04/2012 15:06

DD1's middle name is Loveday (The Little White Horse was a favourite of mine) and she loves it. One of the Meg and Mog books is dedicated to a Loveday as well.

blueblizz · 21/04/2012 15:10

Loveday is beautiful. Go for it

I think it's beautiful, I never knew it was Cornish. There was a Loveday at my school and to be honest she did get quite a lot of stick about her name, but I think it's fine as a middle name.

Mishimoshi · 21/04/2012 15:14

Dd1 has it as a middle name. She loves it. We love it. Everyone loves it Smile

BuntyPenfold · 21/04/2012 17:22

I love it too ,though DH doesn't. (He hasn't read any Elizabeth Goudge)

janie2 · 21/04/2012 21:31
