Hello!

I am having a girl and really love the name Ivy... but then a really famous singer gave her baby the name (albeit a middle name).

So do you think the floodgates will open and Ivy will be one of the most popular names for the coming years??

I like it, it was my nan's name. I may be ignorant, but I don't know which famous singer used it as a middle name, so I doubt everyone else you speak to will, or that people will think you are copying her (especially if it was only a middle name), So if you like it, don't let that put you off.

I think it will get more a bit popular, like the other "Old Lady Names" that are making a comeback, Edith, Iris, Rose, etc, but I can't see it being at the top of the list of popular names. So if you like it, I think that makes it a good choice.

I have a ten month old Ivy, and there's another Ivy at one of our baby groups! I love the name (obviously!) but it is getting more popular unfortunately Smile

MarkStretch · 19/04/2012 11:17

My DD (Ivy) was born two weeks before THAT singer also gave her DD it as a middle name. When I found out I was distraught and said the same thing to DH, I was worried it would become really popular and everyone would think I had named her after the celeb baby.

It really didn't help when my HV came round for the first time and said 'Oh did you name her after Beyonce's baby?!' Angry

However, 4 months on, no one mentions it at all and most people just say she has a lovely name! Go for it!

ThePieSmuggler · 19/04/2012 11:20

I reckon Beyonce wants to be me and is therefore copying me because she clearly wants to be lumpy and knackered instead of a sex symbol Grin

redrubyshoes · 19/04/2012 11:23

I love the name Ivy and have done since the 1980's.

Clararara · 19/04/2012 11:36

Oh it was Beyonce.... Markstretch, I think If anyone suggested I'd named a child after a celeb baby I would be also distraught, I think I'd jump on my high-horse and get really snobby- "do you see a copy of Heat magazine lying around? No I have shelves full of actual proper books".......... I read all the trashy magazines at work instead lol.

People will forget about what that celeb called her child when the next big star has a baby and it doesn't matter if there's the another child with the same name- if a name is nice enough, another mum is sure to think so too, so that will happen.

EdithWeston · 19/04/2012 11:40

I'd still think Tilsley.

Cupcake83 · 19/04/2012 11:54

Markstretch oh I would be really annoyed too! But like Clararara says people will eventually forget...

I am particularly fond of old lady names, my real favourite Pearl was quickly dismissed by DH :(

Beyonce's daughter is called blue Ivy, so Blue is likely to get more popular in terms of how trends usually work. My 2 year old daughter is called Ivy, and i don't know anyone with the same name as her.

I think it one of those names where you either love it or you hate it, it's not like Poppy or Lily which people like or just think is an ok name. So i don't think it will soar in popularity.

telsa · 19/04/2012 12:22

Ivy is lovely and I don't know any. I think you should go for it.

savoycabbage · 19/04/2012 12:36

I changed my mind on names after someone famous called their baby the name that I was going to use because I thought that people would think I was only doing it because of them.

Needless to say, 5 years later and nobody remembers and I wish I had just called her the name I wanted to call her.

JumpingForJuly · 19/04/2012 15:54

I've got a 10 month old Ivy and have never met another so far. However obviously she was born before Beyonce's little one but nobody has ever mentioned it to us.
I think you should go for it but maybe I'm a tad biased Wink

I love Ivy too OP and it was my Grandma's name. It didn't occur to us with DD1 to use family names as middle names but with DD2 I wanted to use one of the 4 grandmother's names as her middle name and we chose Evelyn. Expecting DC3 and if a girl think we'll go with Ivy as a middle name.

Seems my taste is completely opposite to everlongs!!!

So, I would say go for it, it's a name you love, many people won't know what Beyonce's baby is called and as she's only used it as a middle name it's unlilely to become overused, even if it does become slightly more popular.

puddle2 · 20/04/2012 22:22

I have a 10 month old Ivy too! Its a gorgeous name. Similar to Evie, Eva, Ava etc but without being really common (and by common I mean popular!).
3 people replying here have 10 month old Ivys!
