Hi all

We are planning to call our first baby Hazel and we cannot work out which middle name goes best, so far we have come up with:-

Violet
Erica
Iris
Meredith
Meriel
Clarissa
Elspeth

Can anyone tell me which of the above work best/should be avoided please! Or any new ideas gratefully received as well.

Our surname is Wll*ms by the way.

Thanks!

Pah! May is not that Botanical...
Anyway Merdith is... is.... I don't it just is.
Choose May!

sunnydelight · 18/04/2012 07:38

Love Meredith.

When I saw the thread title, the middle name "Emily" popped into my head as an obviously nice fit.

Of the ones you have listed, I like Meredith best because this is nicest rythmically, and my next favourite would be Iris.

I think Hazel May is lovely, I don't think I would think 'botanical' straight away.

Also, I love, LOVE, Hazel! I think one syllable names would go best as a second name.

Anne
Jane
Rae
Kate
Ruth

I like Ruth and Emily, and May growing on me. Like Lois but already know one so cannot use.

What about Hazel Clara?

Or Hazel Florence?

Or maybe we need to think up some more monosyllabic middle names?

Hazel Iona

Hazel Leigh
Hazel Fern

Hazel Clara is lovely, so is Hazel Martha.

Excellent choice OP!!

DD, 11 months is Hazel.

Her middle names are Jane & then a family surname as a second middle name. So we wanted to keep the first middle name short. DH also loves the song 'Hazey Jane' so it's a nod to that too.

I also like:
Hazel Elizabeth
Hazel Beatrice/Beatrix
Hazel Joy
Hazel Juliet
Hazel Maria

my mum is Hazel Ruth Smile

DumSpiroSpero · 18/04/2012 16:01

Hazel Rose?

I think you are onto something with Hazel Florence or Meredith. Many folks suggest a short snappy mn. But we rarely say them together. Whereas you are suggesting some very different names to go with Hazel. I think that's the way to go. I always think of mn as alternative names. I have dozens of colleagues who use there mn as adults. So a mix of styles is considerate IMO.

redrubyshoes · 18/04/2012 16:17

Hazel Sophia
Hazel Charlotte
Hazel Phillipa
Hazel Lucy

Ooh lots more great suggestions thanks.

I just remembered another name I really like, Lyra - but that would be coming back to the too-many-els problem again wouldn't it, with Hazel Lyra...?

DS1 would have been Hazel Madeleine had he been a girl. Still love it as a name, but don't think I'll get to use it.

MariahScary · 29/04/2012 10:39

I think it needs either a one syllable (but very limited then - Rose, May etc) or a long name with thre eor more syllables

Hazel Elizabeth
Hazel Josephine
Hazel Clementine
Hazel Cecilia

etc

MarySA · 29/04/2012 10:44

I agree Hazel does seem to go better with the middle names beginning with M. Though I like the name Clarissa it doesn't go with the Hazel. Hmmmmm.

Hazel Margaret. I know Margaret is very old fashioned but I quite like it. Hazel Miriam is also nice.

MariahScary · 29/04/2012 10:48

Hazel Margaret is lovely.
