I'm of Spanish descent and am having real difficulty choosing between my favorite girl names; Areola and Satchelle. DH and I have been arguing about it non-stop for MONTHS. I'm due in two weeks, please help ladies! Any other suggestions welcome...

Areole definitely makes me think of nipples and the other one makes me think of a school satchel. Sorry, not very helpful!

As far as I can see areola means the same thing in spanish Confused

ilovejamieoliver · 09/04/2012 20:20

Ummm Areola is actually a traditional name from the area in Spain where my family come from, its very common around there and I've always thought its very beautiful; its my great grandmother's name. Now I know that though, might cross it off the list!!! Satchelle is in the top ten Jamaican names where we have a holiday home. I've always loved Jamaica and the way of life there and really want to bring an element of that into my family. My other DC is called Tiyone-Jose, like I say I love the idea of combining the elements of my cultural interests!!! Tiyone is a mixture Tyrone and Tony.

How about Aurelia instead of Areola?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2012 20:37

Oh dear.

revolutionconfirmed · 09/04/2012 20:39

Awful.

templenewsam · 09/04/2012 20:52

Stellan I think your right! Hmm

Ali2girls · 09/04/2012 21:00

Can never quite believe how honest some people can be but have to admit myself that this time neither sound like great choices! Aurelia is a good suggestion though :)

EBDteacher · 09/04/2012 21:03

Yes, Aurelia or Arianna instead of Areola.

MadameChinLegs · 09/04/2012 21:05

Areola = nipple
Satchelle = satchel

Love Aurelia, what about Ariadne?

PestoPenguin · 09/04/2012 21:09

So nipple or bag then? Neither really works in the UK.

ilovejamieoliver · 09/04/2012 21:13

Areola for just a middle name maybe? It will always have a special ring for me. Ali2girls - I can't believe the reactions some people have had either!!! And yes, Ariadne is a great name. I would consider Ariadne-Satchelle...

nope, sorry.

PestoPenguin · 09/04/2012 21:17

Just be grateful you asked the question online Wink. Had you named your baby either of these things people would constantly be thinking what posters here have said, and possibly sniggering, even if they were too polite to tell you. A few aren't polite and will say what they think whatever.

Most people expect honesty when they post on MN Grin.

applepieinthesky · 09/04/2012 21:30

I thought Satchell was a boys name?

Never heard of Areola. This has to be a wind up surely?

MickyDodger · 10/04/2012 11:25

Tiyone? Really?

MickyDodger · 10/04/2012 11:25

Tiyone? Really?

ilovejamieoliver · 10/04/2012 15:22

My children's names express my culture, my passions and my soul and i really don't think mumsnet are being very supportive. Not sure this is the help I was looking for...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2012 15:32

Ariadne is lovely.

lisaro · 10/04/2012 15:32

Nips or school bags, sorry. Mumsnet seem to be being supportive by telling you the truth. And yes, holding on to your heritage is fine, but here in England that's what those words mean. Use them, don't use them, but don't ask for opinions and then whine when obvious things are pointed out to you.
