And we have absolutely no idea of a name! I have a few months to go still, but was sure it was a third boy.But after scan think it might be a girlie.Shock
I like Essie and Connie. DH doesn't.
He likes Kelly-thoughts? It is a big family surname on my side.
He also likes Lucy.

The boys have short snappy "normal" names, and our surname is a "Mc" one.

We have done family names for the boys, i.e. Grandparents etc. Possibilities from this list are:
Esther
Kathleen
Elizabeth

In case it is a boy, we like Ted-thoughts?
And what are the views on Seamus?

I hate picking a name....someone do it for me! Grin

Oh, and our hospital doesn't tell you the sex, plus I would like a surprise anyway!

Kelly, Lucy and Elizabeth are all nice names but it has to be one you both love. I'm not too fond of Ted but I like Seamus.

FondleWithCare · 08/04/2012 09:25

Oh and congratulations!

toobreathless · 08/04/2012 09:26

Really like Essie & think nice nn for Esther? Also love Connie, I would probably use Constance on the birth certificate but think it stands alone well too.

Lucy: meh, nice but quite popular & a lot of L names about.

Kelly: strongly dislike this: sorry.

Elizabeth: strong & beautiful. Love it.

Kathleen: not too keen on.

Boys:

Ted: lovely (my grandpa's name) Would it be a nn for Edward? Quite popular though but rightly so!

Seamus: nice. Or Seth?

noddyholder · 08/04/2012 09:30

Love ted Esther and elizabeth not keen on the others.

woopsidaisy · 08/04/2012 09:33

Thanks ladies! Great to have other opinions. I can't discuss with friends or family as someone always says "oh no!" to a name, and then I feel I have to scrap it!
Do you think Seamus is too long a name to go with a long Mc surname?

HandMadeTail · 08/04/2012 09:35

Congratulations!

I am among the haters of NNs as names, so would want Ted to be Edward or Theodore.

Elizabeth is great, and has many diminutives, as does Kathleen. I have a sister called Esther, and always envied her name.

Jess850 · 08/04/2012 09:38

Love Esther.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 08/04/2012 09:40

I like Essie,Connie and Ted.

Seamus,Elizabeth and Esther are good too.

The rest I'm not so keen on.

welovesausagedogs · 08/04/2012 09:41

Congratulations
Kelly - really dislike
Lucy - lovely, this is my favourite of your choices

What about adapting a name like Elizabeth - e.g. Eliza, Lily

I like Edward/Ted for a boy - i don't really like Seamus personally

woopsidaisy · 08/04/2012 10:07

Sorry, should have said that I would be doing Ted as NN for Edward, and Essie as NN for Esther etc.
I'm liking Essie more and more actually....

Toeuffeta · 08/04/2012 10:15

Lots of Kellys in their 30's round here, I'd never met one until a few years ago! Also know a few men called Kelly. Don't know or have heard of any born in the last 15 years or so.

As a 70's name, now out of fashion, it could be a really good choice - ahead of the curve iykwim. But you've got to like it of course!

woopsidaisy · 08/04/2012 10:35

I'm not that sold on Kelly, as it seems a little American for me. I just suggested Essie again to DH and he has said he really doesn't like it.
Sigh.
Elizabeth is my DSis name, Liz as NN. I thought of NN Betsy or Betty, but DH doesn't like either!
I hope this is a boy, then problem solved.

Esther, nicknamed Essie - lovely! You might also like Estelle or Hester too. Esther Kelly McSurname sounds very nice to my ears. Your husband could always call her Esther and you could call her Essie. Some people prefer full names or would prefer to come up with a nickname organically.

If your sons are Tom and Matt, go with Ted. If they are Thomas and Matthew, go with Edward, nicknamed Ted.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2012 11:48

Love Ted/Teddy as nn for Edward.
Don't like Seamus.

Don't like Essie. Connie okay as nn for Constance.
Not over-fond of Lucy.
Esther is nice though I prefer Hester.
Elizabeth is nice.
Don't really like Kathleen.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2012 11:49

You might also like Edie, Edith or Adele.

puds11 · 08/04/2012 11:51

I strongly dislike kelly, its very common (no offense to any kellys). Essie is lovely, ted is an awsome name

BBQJuly · 08/04/2012 14:59

How about Estella, with Essie or Stella as nickname?
Connie/Constance, Lucy and Kathleen all nice too.

Lucy Kathleen or Estella Constance would be nice.

woopsidaisy · 08/04/2012 16:02

Thanks for all the input ladies. Have taken Kelly off the list. Will try to convince DH about Essie, or else keep looking!

Love Esther Grin

GilbertandGeorge · 08/04/2012 16:45

Esther & Elizabeth I love, and Ted is lovely.

Kelly is a dreadful name.

LondonNadiy · 08/04/2012 17:33

Please don't call your child Kelly! Essie is really cute, could also use it as nn for Elizabeth as well as Esther, both of which are fantastic names. Betsy is really cute for Elizabeth, and ages better than you'd think, our Betsy is 17 now, and its as cute as it was when she was a baby. Connie and Lucy are lovely - if its Constance he doesn't like, could go for something like Corrina or Corinne and surreptitiously start calling her Connie!

Seamus is nice but might be a bit much with the Mc name if you are English or English-accented. Ted's really cute, and a classic not 'faddy old' name. And tbh, if you like Ted, you could find a girls name to nn it for.

Keep working on him for Essie!

doctordwt · 08/04/2012 18:54

Lucy Esther, or Esther Lucy with Essie as a nn.

Ted's great, but have a long name - Edward, Edmund, Edwin?

HATE Seamus - slimy sounding!

Geranium3 · 08/04/2012 19:16

ted/teddy/edward are lovely, also oscar, not keen on seamus. I find girls names much easier, eloise? helen/helena/ eleanor? Freya is v sweet. susannah? Prefer eppie to essie. Isabel is beautiful and timeless as is clementine and genieve. Good luck! what about robert?

Geranium3 · 08/04/2012 19:17

oops Genivieve!

Italiangreyhound · 08/04/2012 19:58

Esther is lovely.

I love Genevieve too.

www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Genevieve

Genevieve is of French origin, or possibly (Old German) "white wave" or (Celtic) "of the race of women". Saint Genevieve, the patroness of Paris.

I have a friend whose daughter is called this and I think it is is beautiful.
