Is this a boy or girls name to you? What are your thoughts on it?

I don't like old mans names! At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, there will always be people who like a name that others hate or someone else absolutely loves! You go with what you want to go with. I wouldn't even bother asking opinions, I did and regretted it but went with the name anyway .

ggirltwin2pinot · 07/04/2012 21:18

it has chavvy connotations

if that's snobby then so be it

karinajack · 07/04/2012 21:29

Fluffy u spoke my mind what does it matter what others think of your choice in names ? I like it though I do know a boy called Tyler and he's totally normal with quite well off parents definately not a chav!

FondleWithCare · 07/04/2012 21:36

Boys name, I quite like it. I'm not a fan of old man names either. I'm also not a chav.

Plonker · 07/04/2012 21:43

I know a couple of boy Tylers and a girl Tyler. So it's either for me, but I'd say boy if pushed.

I'm not particularly keen on it and do agree with the poster who said it's along the same lines as Jayden/Kayden/Kai etc.

usualsuspect · 07/04/2012 22:36

'if that's snobby then so be it'

It is

Italiangreyhound · 08/04/2012 03:14

I think it is a unisex name.

Personally, I usually think of it more as female because the first ever Tyler I heard of was a girl in a film, Point Break, and I loved that film.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0102685/

I think it is a beautiful name.

This site www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Tyler says "Tyler as a girl's name (also used as boy's name Tyler), is pronounced TYE-ler. It is of English origin, and the meaning of Tyler is "a worker in roof tiles". Occupational name. Probably influenced by the popularity of Taylor. American President John Tyler (1841-1845)."

Then you click on the boys name and it says "Tyler as a boy's name (also used as girl's name Tyler)" so I think it is unisex.

mathanxiety · 08/04/2012 03:41

I'm not that keen on old man names, nor am I that keen on Tyler.

It's a boys' name to me, v American, along the lines of Chad and Corey, Tanner and Travis, Cody and Dusty -- trailer park/country music

CheerfulYank · 08/04/2012 03:53

It's a boys' name to me; I know a few, as well as a lot of Taylors. I know one boy Taylor and the rest girls.

Tyler's...okay. I don't hate it but am not overly keen.

HillyWallaby · 08/04/2012 04:35

what math said.

I hate it, and I say that as someone with a child who has what people often think (wrongly) is a surname for a first name.

Jess850 · 08/04/2012 08:58

Go for it, as long as you like it that really is all that matters. Names fall in and out of fashion who knows what the general concensous on the name Tyler will be in the future? It is much nicer than some of the horrors I have read on MN lol.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/04/2012 14:54

I really don't like it. It has a harsh, unpleasant sound imho.Nothing to do with it being 'chav' or not.

insancerre · 08/04/2012 14:57

I work in a nursery and have known several Tylers over the years, all boys, and not chavs either.
I like it.
