Thought on names

The ONLY names OH and I both like are:
Holly
Libby
Georgi

We don't like any longer versions (liberty, Elizabeth, georgina etc). Any thoughts? I understand that Holly is quite date in the us but in uk it is in top 25 (think it makes top ten during December)

Holly is lovely :)

Libby OK as nickname for Elizabeth. Georgi sounds unfinished and nicknamey - don't you like Georgia (only one letter extra)?

Holly and Libby are lovely.

Georgi looks wrong. It's missing at least one letter there.

CheshireDing · 07/04/2012 00:09

Agree that Georgi looks unfinished.

I think thought that there is probably a massive difference between a top 10 name and a top 5 name even in how likely you are to hear another child called it (if that makes sense) Hmm

HolyLentenPromiseBatman · 07/04/2012 02:55

Holly - pretty
Libby -really nice
Georgi - a bit nicknamey and I think it should be spelt Georgie

BellaOfTheBalls · 07/04/2012 03:33

Holly - nice but I'm biased (it's my middle name)
Libby - really sweet but becoming increasingly popular, I know of 4
Georgi - needs an -e or an -a on the end, looks unfinished & quite frankly a bit wrong.

Personally I would put the full version (Georgina, Elizabeth etc) on their birth certificate so that they have the option when they are older. I sometimes wonder how seriously all the "cutesy nickname" first names would be taken on CV's. Can you imagine a 35 year old walking into an interview or business meeting introducing herself as Georgi?

FondleWithCare · 07/04/2012 08:14

Holly- beautiful name
Libby- very American cheerleader to me
Georgi- not right, Georgia is nice

abbypumpkin · 07/04/2012 12:35

Thanks for the replies. I like Georgia but OH doesn't! He suggested Georgie but with an e it reminded me of Georgie porgie! I'm not too worried about how popular a name is. DD1 has a nicknamey name but I don't think Libby of Georgie are any different to Charlie, Alfie, Harry or even jack - they're all nicknames that have become names in their own right. Hopefully people are judged on their abilities and not name though I accept that many people still do stereotype and judge in this way - hopefully as less 'mainstream ' names becomes more popular this will reduce. It is just so difficult to find names that we agree on - it's been six months and these are the only ones we're both remotely happy with!
Thanks for the comments, I don't really want to have a yoonik spelling so I think I accept the Georgie issue.

Holly - is very nice
Libby - No way - too nicknamey - also it sounds horrible
Georgi - looks unfinished, but i quite like the name - but spell it Georgie (this makes it look finished/turns it into a proper name.

calzone · 07/04/2012 23:45

Libby is pretty.

I also like Livia.

jarvo84 · 08/04/2012 00:13

I teach a girl called Georgi and she's always having trouble with people misspelling it, adding extra letters to the end of it. She very patiently corrects them me each time, but it must get frustrating.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2012 00:26

Georgi looks horrible, sorry. Not overfond of Holly.

I love Libby but only as nn for Elizabeth.

How about Georgiana, then you can shorten it to a nn? Or Lilibet shortened to Libby, if you really don't like Elizabeth?
