Help - Florence or Harriet?

Is Florence really that popular? Does it matter? Am struggling to choose! Can you help? Thanks

Harriet is my favourite of the 2, nothing wrong with Florence though.

Harriet for me.... Makes me think of a smiling baby, a cheeky confident girl.... Shortened for a teen, and a strong name for a confident woman....

Florence just makes me think of severe Grin

I do think Florence is quite popular at the moment, but I definitely don't think it matters! It's a lovely name - and I sense from your OP that it might be your preferred choice?! Both names are great, but I suppose I would go for Florence if pushed.

My DCs both have quite popular names, but I just don't care. I love their names! My mum says the names are a bit dull, but I think they're 'go anywhere, do anything' names.

Harriet, definitely! When I saw it in the thread title it made me think how lovely and under-used it is. Florence is nice too, but I think Harriet is just gorgeous.

Thanks - Florence was my original favourite but then quite a few people said is it after Florence and the Machine - so am now thinking that this could be happening a lot. Then thought how nice Harriet was so v confused! Could have Harriet Florence or Florence Harriet!

the chances are she will also use shortened versions of her name so deciding which set of nns you prefer might help in making a decision

I know more Harriets than Florences, but prefer Harriet, I'm not keen on Flo, Flossie etc whereas I quite like Hattie etc.

I know three Harriet's born this year so don't choose it on grounds of being less popular, think it's going to whoosh up the charts!

Both are lovely names but I do prefer Harriet.

Love both of these. Couldn't use Harriet ourselves as many family members drop the 't' at the end and I wouldn't be able to bear it.

Oh I love them both too but think I'd edge toward Florence as my favourite. I don't think popularity matters at all! And neither of those names will beat all the Evies, Olivias and Amelias.
I knew a very, very cool 20 year old Harri...... Always thought it was a fab nn for a young adult female.
Also, I wouldn't use both names together in case you have another DD in the future and still love the name you didn't go for this time

Both are lovely, but i think Harriet just wins it - just that bit more unusual (you could keep Florence/Florrie for dd2?)

DD is Florence, I have never yet met another one (we are not in the UK though) She is almost 6 weeks old and it really suits her.

Personally I love Harriet. It was on my girls list but DH wouldn't let me have it.

Its nice because its not a name that automatically gets shortened, but there are some really nice nicknames if you want to. I really liked Hetty for a little girl. Cutsey, with Harriet as a more mature name for when she grows up.

I love both- my gran was Florence, and her mum, Harriet.
