What are people's thoughts?

Would probably use Elsie as nn day to day, which is a bit 'cutsie' but think Elspeth gives a more grown up option for later.

Are there many around these days?

It's lovely, although I think Elsbeth edges it slightly for me - just a little softer, but either would be a great name.

I know one child called Elspeth (she's about 7 now) and a couple of adults, but I'd say it was a fairly unusual name - but basically just a variant of Elizabeth really, which is in itself not that common at the moment.

Elspeth is lovely and not widely used.
Elsie/Elisabeth is more common.

I think Elsie is very nice- I don't think she'll need a more grown-up option. Elspeth is a nice twist on Elizabeth (my name but I hate it- I've always been Abie) but Elsie doesn't seem like a baby name to me- I'd be happy to hire someone named Elsie, while (I'm sorry but) I might hesitate over something like Kayleigh.

Dd is at school with a very sweet Elspeth. They are Y4 so aged around 8/9. She is an Elspeth, not shortened to anything as far as I am aware.

Thanks for your comments everyone - it's definitely on the list (and is DH's top choice for a girl at the moment so we'll see!) Now if only we had some boys names, but that's a whole other thread...

I know two (grown up) Elspeths and they both love their names. One is always Elspeth and the other is Elle.
