Elspeth?

What are people's thoughts?

Would probably use Elsie as nn day to day, which is a bit 'cutsie' but think Elspeth gives a more grown up option for later.

Are there many around these days?

Any comments gratefully received!

i love it!!

mummybare · 01/04/2012 22:38

It's lovely, although I think Elsbeth edges it slightly for me - just a little softer, but either would be a great name.

cakeismysaviour · 01/04/2012 22:45

I love it. Its our first choice if this bump is a girl. :)

We would use the full name day-to-day though, but I think Elsie is nice.

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 01/04/2012 22:57

It's lovely.

Beamur · 01/04/2012 23:00

Not great if you lisp (like I do...)
Pretty name though. I don't know any in RL.

suzikettles · 01/04/2012 23:02

I love it.

I know one child called Elspeth (she's about 7 now) and a couple of adults, but I'd say it was a fairly unusual name - but basically just a variant of Elizabeth really, which is in itself not that common at the moment.

sonniebonnie · 02/04/2012 07:23

Elspeth is lovely and not widely used.
Elsie/Elisabeth is more common.

Leeds2 · 02/04/2012 09:49

Love Elspeth.

squoosh · 02/04/2012 10:44

it's a bit lispy

Wandastartup · 02/04/2012 15:19

I have an Elspeth! She is 3 and not met any others!!

AbieH · 02/04/2012 15:31

I think Elsie is very nice- I don't think she'll need a more grown-up option. Elspeth is a nice twist on Elizabeth (my name but I hate it- I've always been Abie) but Elsie doesn't seem like a baby name to me- I'd be happy to hire someone named Elsie, while (I'm sorry but) I might hesitate over something like Kayleigh.

BehindLockNumberNine · 02/04/2012 15:34

Dd is at school with a very sweet Elspeth. They are Y4 so aged around 8/9. She is an Elspeth, not shortened to anything as far as I am aware.

kaymondo · 02/04/2012 20:59

Thanks for your comments everyone - it's definitely on the list (and is DH's top choice for a girl at the moment so we'll see!) Now if only we had some boys names, but that's a whole other thread...

I really like it, would have been on my list if it wasn't dh's ex mil! Lovely name with Scottish roots; great nicknames

McPhee · 02/04/2012 21:05

Beautiful, but I am biased Wink

Elspie, Els and elsaroo are used here Grin

MadameMessy · 02/04/2012 21:07

Oh its lovely:) but i have a lisp so i would really struggle with it.

lalabaloo · 03/04/2012 21:42

I love the name Elspeth, if DS was a girl then it would have been on the shortlist

DaisyAndConfused · 03/04/2012 21:56

Love, love, love it.

I know two (grown up) Elspeths and they both love their names. One is always Elspeth and the other is Elle.

TerrierMalpropre · 03/04/2012 21:57

Pretty...but also clever. Go for it!

exoticfruits · 03/04/2012 22:02

I like it, but really hate Elsie.

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 03/04/2012 22:06

Elspeth was my number one choice for dd. Dh forbade me to use it. i still resent him
