A sibling for Robin

Well, we're only at the ttc stage but it's fun to think of names...

What boy or girl names would you suggest to go with DD Robin?

There's a few issues - needs to work with German pronunciation (so TH, W, V and J are out) and I'd LOVE to get something suggestive of my Welsh background in, but I know it's actually impossible to combine the two - hence Robin the first time around.

Nature names are good.

Nothing too popular, ie Isabella, Harry etc.

Up for some mad ideas too. I like Tippi for example (though doubt DH will!).

What you you reckon?

Batman?

Janoschi · 01/04/2012 10:20

DH would probably like that one, actually!

Redbreast? It has no TH, W, V, or J, sounds nature-y, isn't too popular, and is quite mad.

Love Robin!

Puremince yes, if we have twins they could be Redbreast and Bluetit.

Iris is lovely. I had a GA Iris so it's a nice link too.

I know this is stupidly early but thinking of names makes things feel real, somehow!

I was thinking Rix for a girl... our last midwife was Dutch and I thought it was such a cool name! Ricky is a sweet nn....??

I've never heard the name Rix in Belgium, nor in Holland, are you sure it's not a nickname? For Rita for example?

Hazel sounds nice with a german pronunciation.

belgo · 01/04/2012 12:54

What about Axel/Axelle?

belgo · 01/04/2012 12:56

Pippi
Felix
Lotta

Janoschi · 01/04/2012 13:01

Could've been a nickname, belgo. She was Rix to me though! Rita is nice though.

I worked with total arse colleague called Axel. It sounds cool though but actually means armpit in German, which makes me wonder why it ever became a German name!

Pippi I LOVE (it was on the list for DD) but now it has that ruddy Middleton connotation.

Lotta / Lotte is cute. Lieselotte nn Lilo is gorgeous, but does it fit with Robin? Lilo and Robin? Hmmm

Felix = cat to me, sorry!

No-one's suggested Rocky yet - most disappointed!

Lieselotte is a very nice nameWink

Lilo is not an obvious nickname though - Lotte/Lies/Liesel are more common.

I'm wondering if Rix was a nickname for Ria, short for Maria? There are so many middle aged Marias around (in Belgium and Holland), they always have a nickname.

belgo · 01/04/2012 13:04

Rocco is far better then Rocky! What about Woody?

belgo · 01/04/2012 13:08

Willow

youarenotbeingserious · 01/04/2012 13:14

I like Willow. Have a pupil called Willow.

I also thought Poppy/ Lily but may be too 'popular' now for what your thinking along the lines of.

Janoschi · 01/04/2012 13:16

Lilo seemed to be the nickname attached to Lieselotte in Frankfurt... but could just be a random thing for that area. Just liked it!

I LOVE Woody. So much so that my dog is Woody.

Ria = nice but then I thought Ria of the Year (is that just me?)

Willow is going to be hellish for DH's family to say. Villoff is probably how his parents would say it.

slowburner · 01/04/2012 15:32

Why not look up some german names, and see how they would be pronounced with an English accent?

youarenotbeingserious · 01/04/2012 15:34

slowburner is spot on and what we did with DS name which is Spanish spelt and pronounced dependent on which family member is saying it. Grin

Janoschi · 01/04/2012 16:21

I suddenly thought oooh, Marion is a great name. It goes really well with Robin too.... and then had to knock some sense into myself.
