Albert, Wilfred or Herbie

Ok ...... so yes I do like old fashioned names! Smile DS is Arthur and considering these for names for DC2 should we have another boy (hopefully will find out next week). Out of Albert, Wilfred and Herbie, DH is totally set on Albert but I am wondering whether Arthur and Albert are just too similar for siblings. I really like Wilfred but DH is not so sure. My hormone ravaged mind is suddenly loving Herbie (Herbert), which is also a family name but I suspect a bit too far old man. What do you think???

I love them all.
I nearly called DS2 Bertie.
My husband was talking to his FO and they are proper posh and called his LO
Wilbur, which I was very jealous of. It's a great name too.

There's a little boy in Supermarket Zoo called Albie, which is lovely too.
DS1 middle name is Arthur.

Good names...! I just love Arthur.

Yes, Arthur and Albert are similar, but will you call him Albert, Alfie or Bertie? I think it's nice if you can (where possible) to give children different initials. This is coming for someone who's already got an 'H' and who wants another 'H' {go figure}

Arthur and Wilfred is the best.

Donald, John, Ian, George, Mark, Paul, Anthony, Michael.
Those are old-fashioned, too. And not so.... out there.

I think Arthur and Albert are too similar. Prefer Wilfred to Herbie.

How about William, Charles, Frederick, Josiah, Sidney, Eric, Nathaniel, Samuel, Clarence, Edwin, Harold, Leo, Philip, Richard, Lewis, Michael, Walter, Ernest, Raymond, Daniel, Hugh, Francis, Elmer, Theodore?

RetroMum1 · 29/03/2012 18:40

I love Herbie although I think it is becoming quite popular, or certainly is in SE London. I want to use Bert, Bertie but it is also becoming popular. If this doesn't bother you then go for Herbie.

I like Albert but I think it is too close to Arthur and I'm not keen on Wilfred and I think the abbreviation to wilf is dreadful. I was at school with one and he was rather large and teased the whole way through secondary school. This may be what has put me off!

Thanks, I am finding it sooo hard with boys names. I think Arthur and Albert is too close but I do love Albert / Albie and am finding it hard to find something else that I love and feel right. Lots of lovely names doubleglazing, quite like Ernest....might add that to the list. I had no idea Herbie was becoming popular retromum - although we do live up North. I think if we went for Wilfred he'd definitely be a Freddy as apposed to a Wilf.

Love Albert and Herb(ie), would prob choose Herbie if I already had an Arthur though.
In SE London too so maybe it's in the ether.

jaffacakehips · 29/03/2012 20:29

What about William, Hugh or Hugo, Henry, Harry, Harrison, Hector, Jasper, John, Miles, Nicolas, Patrick, Tristian, Barnaby, Stanley.

Any good? I find boys names really hard.

PercyFilth · 29/03/2012 20:37

Queen Victoria had an Arthur and an Albert, so if it was good enough for her ... :)

RetroMum1 · 29/03/2012 21:14

I love Ernest it's on our list. Ernie is really cute when they're little.

Casperette · 29/03/2012 22:00

My dad is Wilfrid, but he goes by his middle name instead and my Grandad is a Herbert - guess i agree tiger you like old fashioned names!! My gramps would be very happy with a Bertie, but we've told my dad not to be disappointed that we dont pass on his name!!

welovesausagedogs · 29/03/2012 22:17

My four year old DS is called Herbie (not Herbert), i love it, it suits him right down to the ground. It's not old manish at all, everyone i meet always says what a great name he has and they love it. We had Artie (not arthur) on our list if baby no.3 was a boy, but it was a girl so we couldn't use it. Go for Herbie it's a great name, Herbie and Artie/ Herbert and Arthur go really well together without being too similar.

welovesausagedogs · 29/03/2012 22:18

We live in NW London and have never met another Herbie btw.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 30/03/2012 08:56

Wilfred is dreadful. Just dreadful.

Albert is cute (Albie/Bertie) and is fine with Arthur.

Not sure about Herbert. Herbie is cute for a little one, but not sure he would thank you for it as he got older - a teenager called Herbie? Really?
