it's all over the place atm. i predict a large surge of popularity.

i think lots of people think of Clementine as a guilty pleasure, and seem to see Clemency as a less fruit-bowl-y and therefore more useable alternative.

i think it's very pretty but then i like virtue names. DH would turn up his nose though, too unusual for him.

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 22:55

I love it - it's just gorgeous.

jumpyjan · 28/03/2012 22:56

love it

twooter · 28/03/2012 22:59

Just makes me think of people stuck in foreign jails.

LineRunner · 28/03/2012 23:01

yy, it is something granted at the last minute by the Governor of Texas in John Grisham novels.

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 28/03/2012 23:31

It's dreadful.

welovesausagedogs · 28/03/2012 23:34

like clementine better, clemmie is a cute nn for both names

mummybare · 28/03/2012 23:53

Personally I prefer Clementine. Clemency just seems a bit 'legal', iyswim...

Lovely

ediepop · 29/03/2012 16:47

I happen to think it's a beautiful name, but I would - it's mine. There are very few Clemencys my age; I've only come across one or two others and I've always loved how unusual it is. I also regularly get complimented on my name, so I can recommend it, if you're thinking of it.

Very few people know what it means, but it does mean 'mercy' and is sometimes used in a formal legal setting, but that has never bothered me.

thegreylady · 30/03/2012 11:31

beautiful name meaning mercy-the writer Susan Hill used it for one of her daughters

squoosh · 30/03/2012 11:33

Much better than Faith, Hope etc. I'd expect a Clemency to be quite well to do.

tunaday · 30/03/2012 19:19

Really like it.

yellowflowers · 30/03/2012 19:38

Absolutely love it. It is my first choice if we have a girl next time

I really like it, and it's on my list for any future DD. But the lack of a NN that appeals is a downside for me :(

seeker · 31/03/2012 19:55

I've been trying to force evyone I know in rl and on he to have q dd called Clemency for years. Look at me riding the zeitgeist!

nooka · 31/03/2012 20:01

One of my middle names is Clemency and I can't say I like it very much. Partly because it has no nice shortenings. Clem/Clemmie are not very nice
IMO.

5madthings · 31/03/2012 20:02

i really like it :)

ladie · 02/04/2012 20:31

don't like it at all, even worse than Clementine, sorry...

For me "clem" means "stuck", not that it matters much in a british environment... but even in English it doesn't sound very pretty.. I like more feminine girls' names.

sonniebonnie · 03/04/2012 10:36

I much prefer Clementine - works better in most other languages.

sonniebonnie · 03/04/2012 10:37

But I'm not keen on Clemmy - sounds quite harsh.
