boys names help!

We are having loads of trouble thinking of boys names we both like. At the moment the most likely one is harry, but there's an element of making do... others we have considered are:

Archie
Atticus
Huckleberry
Fox

Is harry just too popular now? I don't want to land him with a name that five other kids in class have. But we are struggling to come up with any others!

Berry

Harry is soooo popular, we know 2 Harry's that are 4 like my DS. Archie is nice.

What about
Phinn - Finn
Alfie
Albert - Albie
Arthur - Artie
Barnaby
Hector
Rupert
Percy
Felix
Oscar
Luis
Dylan
Milo
Miles
Easton
Eric
Rae
Charlie
Casper
Benedict - Ben
Arlo
Bertie
Do you like any of these names???

Gene

eatyourveg · 27/03/2012 20:25

Atticus is really cool - I'll throw in Noah, Jethro, Barney and Rufus

Workinglate · 28/03/2012 09:54

Thanks for your replies. There are some lovely names here, but by the time I have ruled out those that are already in the family, those that friends have recently used and those that DH says no to, there are none left. He is much more picky than I am about boys' names!

Because of our surname, I think it would be better if the name had at least two syllables, and preferably didn't end with M or S. That is why I am uncertain about Fox and Atticus, although I really like them. And I am wondering if Huckleberry is a bit too fanciful, and Archie (like Harry) a bit overused at the moment . . .

I love Atticus! Are you a fan of to kill a mockingbird too?

Pasiphae · 28/03/2012 09:58

Archie is in the Harry league, I agree.

Huckleberry would be too fanciful for me, a bit try-hard as well.

Some more ideas:
Bertie, Perry, Percy, Hugo, Remy, Noe, Eli?

Workinglate · 28/03/2012 10:08

Yes, To Kill a Mockingbird is an old favourite AND has personal meaning for DH and I . . . but it's a bit of a loveit/hate it name too.

Pasiphae, DH won't go for anything there, sorry!

Please keep the ideas coming!

At least your DS would be the only one! If you really love the name then use it! I woul like an attitcus but that's never going to happen now. Sad

happybigbump · 28/03/2012 11:06

Agree that Harry is very overdone - I know lots of little Harrys. Archie also feels very 'trendy', and I think both will date as they go out of fashion.

I like Atticus and Fox but am not sure about Huckleberry. Also like Felix, Arthur, Tristan and Hugo.

We're probably going to name our bump Quentin, although are still deciding which middle name to use with it.

melika · 28/03/2012 11:12

Hugo, Gideon, Rupert or Paul?

tammytoby · 28/03/2012 11:20

Love Atticus, Felix and Quentin.

Huckleberry is ok but would you shorten to Huck?

Harry/Archie very widely used already.

Workinglate · 28/03/2012 11:25

I love Tristan but can't use it sadly. Can't use Felix with our surname - asking for trouble! Arthur's too traditional for me and I find Hugo a bit posh-sounding, same with Gideon and Rupert. Paul - I am not keen.

Sorry, I know I am shooting all suggestions down. But this is why I posted - just having so much difficulty finding anything we both like!

I know an Idris. I think it's a brilliant name. How about Sasha?

Workinglate · 28/03/2012 11:30

Thanks Merry - I like Idris! Sasha is a girl's name to my ears though.

strawberrypenguin · 28/03/2012 11:32

What about Henry then you could always use Harry as a nn

rachel1970 · 28/03/2012 11:37

I like Atticus the best. Huckleberry could work and you could even shorten to Harry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/03/2012 19:56

Atticus is gorgeous.

Don't like Archie and Huckleberry and Fox are (imho) frankly bonkers.

How about:
Jem/Jeremy
Rowan
Inigo
Vincent
Kit/Christopher
Asher
Fabian

SilkStalkings · 28/03/2012 23:00

Holden (as in Catcher in the Rye)

twooter · 28/03/2012 23:03

Hamish
Rory
Gregor?

twooter · 28/03/2012 23:04

Like Archie, but it is quite popular. Still, at least you would be able to buy personalised off-the-shelf tat, which you wouldn't get with a rarer name

grimblesmother · 28/03/2012 23:04

Nobody ever suggests Julius

Janoschi · 29/03/2012 00:16

If you have an attachment to To Kill A Mockingbird, how about:

Finch
Dill
Jem

Or if Huckleberry is too much, how about:

Sawyer
Mark
Finn

I suggested Mallory on another thread (the climbing Tenzing guys) - don't know if that's any good...? Just like the sound of it!

Spencer
Dorian
Raymond
Lloyd
Bryn

Janoschi · 29/03/2012 00:17

Personally, if there was ever a bloody good reason to give a kid an odd name, not having to buy off the shelf tat would be it!
