Lovely comments when revealing baby name

...hot on the heels of my ''unpleasant comments when revealing baby name'' thread, I thought I would redress the balance and ask you what the nicest comments you had were upon telling someone your baby name. It would be nice to hear the name too, if you wont out yourself by revealing :)

Have had squeals of delight from ladies (not the chaps) when introducing Barnaby. Mere confusion at Caspar...

hubbahubster · 21/03/2012 20:10

I've had 'what a fantastic name' and 'he has the coolest set of initials ever.' DS is ZJW :)

Firawla · 21/03/2012 20:28

Couple of people said they love my kids names and they will come to me for suggestions when they have theirs in future cos i have good taste Grin
People normally say they are nice cos you don't hear these names all the time.
but I do get others who just look confused! They are arabic names so i tend to get a much better response from other muslims, generally
Will totally out myself to put them up cos i doubt many people have this combination of all 3 names, but they are z i y a d, t a m i m and r a f i q
(spacing done just to make it not searchable, cos i know i will be the only one)

When I had dd3, I had her out at the GP and was sitting beside an elderly man - he asked her name and when I told him (its not an usual name at all - Anna), he smiled and told me it was the name of his late wife. They had been married for ages and she had died a few years ago and he said that for the first time in a long time the name had made him smile again. Of course I was a weeping mess by the time I actually got to speak to the Dr Blush

It always makes me smile when I think about it.

Wigglesrock I was feeling emotional anyway and that just made me blub! Blush

Nothing to add as no real positive reactions to DS' name Sad

emmyloo2 · 22/03/2012 03:58

Dizzycow - what is your DS's name?

I have had some positive reactions but also a few Hmm looks as well. Next time I want to go for a name like audleys above where I get equal amounts of squeals of delight and confusion!! My Ds's name is George, so nothing unusual but quite unusual for little boys here in Australia.

CheerfulYank · 22/03/2012 06:05

Overhearing my MIL proudly announcing, "this is my grandson...Samuel Robert," to ladies at church. I could tell she really liked it. :)

Oh Wiggles!

emmyloo2 · 22/03/2012 06:32

Cheerful Yank, it IS a great name!

pinkgirlythoughts · 22/03/2012 07:27

I know you, Firawla! And your boys do have lovely names :)

Two lovely comments I've received about DS's name (Frederick) were from women at work, who both have teenage Freddie's. Both -separately- told me that their sons were over the moon to hear of another Freddie, and thought I'd picked the best name ever! Praise from a teenage boy- now that must be a good thing!

The5thFishy · 22/03/2012 07:38

Sophia - a beautiful name for a beautiful girl

emmyloo2 · 22/03/2012 07:45

pinkgirly - Frederick is also a great name! I am getting some good ideas. I love Barnaby and I love Frederick.

HardCheese · 22/03/2012 11:53

Nice to hear these, but I have to say that, assuming the names my parents and PILs chose for their children reflect their tastes*, I'd be horrified that they liked our choice for our baby Grin.

  • Think 'names guaranteed to have at least eight others in the class, so they won't stand out in the playground', names that are really difficult to pronounce with the surname because the sounds clash, really ugly combinations of first and middle names - and my MIL's classic, which is that she significantly mispronounces the name of her own husband, after whom their eldest son is named! (And no, this isn't a name which has several different possibilities!)
Blatherskite · 22/03/2012 12:16

I chose DD's name just after we found out she was a girl at 20 weeks. I knew it had to be her name and nothing else suggested afterwards felt as 'right'

She was born by ELCS and when I was chatting to the consultant beforehand she asked us if we knew what sex the baby was and if we had a name. She was thrilled when we said that baby was a girl and would be called Catherine as she'd delivered many, many baby's but never one that would share her name before.

strawberrypenguin · 22/03/2012 12:39

DS usually gets positive comments, he's William and the older generation especially tend to say how it's nice to hear a 'proper' name! (names are quite on trend round here) we just liked it :)
My dad was very pleased in his own quiet way as DSs middle name is my dads first name. We hadn't told him we were going to do this so he only found out when we announced his name once he was born.

CheerfulYank · 22/03/2012 18:07

Strawberry Penguin us too! My dad was thrilled in his taciturn way. :)

The singer in my favourite band said my sons name was fantastic :) that was pretty awesome.

The health visitor just after he was born said 'Oh, what a strong name! He'll grow up to be a rugby player with a name like that!'

(his name is Rory)

phlossie · 22/03/2012 20:03

Ooh, audley, I'm in bed feeding my 1 month old Caspar. I've had some 'cool name' comments... and plenty of confusion. My cousin (yet to have children) told me to stop nabbing the best names.

Frikadellen · 22/03/2012 21:20

for dd1 my sister to my surprise said " that is such a lovely name" Pho ebe

for dd2 the best comment ever about her name was when she was about 3 and we were waiting for dd1 doing her ballet lesson dd2 was being silly and I was playing with her she playfully ran off an I said " Elo isa Jac queline" and from the floor above I heard someone say to someone else" Elo isa Jac queline what a BEAUTIFUL name".

ds we had one go OH WOW I LOVE THAT NAME (Con rad)

dd3 Mil said " Oh thats a good Irish name and one of my favourites (Ao ife)

CheerfulYank · 22/03/2012 22:01

I told a friend that my next DS will be called Charles Frederick and she said "oooooh that's GREAT!"

So that's the first for my yet-to-be-conceived hypothetical DS.

CheshireDing · 23/03/2012 00:17

People have always said how pretty/unusual/lovely DD (5 months) name is.

When we checked the stats for names registered it was a surprised to find her first name in the top 20 - hopefully there is a lot of difference between being number 2, than number 15 or something on the stats. I have heard it on a couple of teenagers now so we will have to see what happens when she gets to school.

DD is Poppy Arabella.

weegiemum · 23/03/2012 13:26

It's a bit Sad, but we named dd2 after dh's grandma, who died 3 weeks before she was born. We were planning to anyway, but when we went to visit when G'ma was dying we told her our plans. The name is Rachel. She was very pleased, and managed a very weak smile. It was the last time anyone saw her smile before she died.

Her middle name is Jessie, after my Gran. She was delighted (secretly) but couldn't say anything more than "I wish I had a prettier name to give that bairn!"

englishmummyinwales · 23/03/2012 13:55

From an elderly man, who suddenly stood up straight, raised his fist in the air and declared "What a fine, strong name!" It's Iwan (welsh spelling of Ewan).

juliewoojulie · 23/03/2012 16:47

my son is robbie and have had nothing but good comments bout his name!

the photographer who was selling me his photos (the type u get cheap in boots) saw his name spelled wiv colourful blocks in one of the pictures of him looking particularly cute and lovely and said 'cute kid, great name too'

a doctor that was doing a x-ray on him also said ' great name' with a name like robbie parkes i can see him being a footballer!! his daddy was well chuffed, cos that's wot he always said!

it does help that he is a cheeky and very socialable little boy and his name really suits him, i love it!
