With only 5 weeks until D day, I need you all to help with my shortlist. I'm incapable of making a decision myself it seems! :o This list was 3 names until about 2 weeks ago but its getting longer by the day so intervention is urgently required.

Niamh
Tabitha Willow Isabelle [nn Twiggy, but this seems cruel if she, well, isn't]
Felicity Elsa
Rowena
Madeleine
Darcey (sp tbc) Victoria [was our firm favourite, but don't want the arsey Darcey thing]
Florence

The middle name will be either Julia, Elsa or Victoria (family names) and it must go with Jack Alexander (ds). Middle name is two syllables and starts with Gr. If it helps, our back up boy name is Barnaby Thomas. We want quite a strong name that will work regardless of age. None of these are common/popular where we are so that's not an issue for us. Feel free to add more names although I may cry if the list gets too much longer!

Ha, I know the feeling, with 2 weeks left my list keeps getting longer!

Niamh-like this, will people be able to pronounce it though?
Tabitha Willow Isabelle- she could be Tabby if she's not Twiggy! Like it too
Felicity Elsa- Beautiful
Rowena-Not so keen, a bit "earthy"
Madeleine-OK
Darcey- this was one of my faves but DH knows a few men of this name so won't consider it
Florence-too popular

Have you considered Verity, Agatha or my very favourite (and currently number 1 on my list), Dulcie?

CPtart · 20/03/2012 16:31

Louisa.
Don't like your others, sorry

lovingthecoast · 20/03/2012 16:42

Niamh, I like and I think most people now know how to pn and sp it.
Tabitha, not keen and makes me think of cats.
Felicity Elsa, this is nice but I prefer Elsa Felicity.
Rowena, I like this.
Madeleine will always be a rag doll to me.
Darcey is nice and I think it will be a while before anyone suggested arsey darcey if at all!
Florence is lovely but very popular.

How about Constance Eliza with nn Connie? Jack and Connie sound nice together. Smile

EllenParsons · 20/03/2012 16:45

Niamh would be my choice of those.

The others are nice too but Niamh is simple, lovely and not as popular as some of the others like Darcy and Florence, which are v nice names but possibly a bit "now".

Your family middle names are great. Niamh Elsa?

FilterCoffee · 20/03/2012 17:18

Niamh - OK
Tabitha Willow Isabelle - I like Willow and Isabelle but dislike Tabitha
Felicity Elsa - like Felicity, Elsa is OK
Rowena - lovely :)
Madeleine - OL
Darcey Victoria - Darcey OK, Victoria very nice
Florence - lovely :)

I'd mix them up a bit...

Florence Rowena
Rowena Florence
Victoria Florence
Victoria Willow
Isabelle Willow
Isabelle Felicity
Willow Victoria
Willow Florence

MoonHare · 20/03/2012 18:24

Niamh - Lovely name and fullfills your criteria

Tabitha Willow Isabelle - like Tabitha and Isabelle (although when it was on my last shortlist it was Isobel) not so keen on Willow in the mix too, plus it would be very hard to fit on the line on any form in life! I LOVE Tabitha and have one of my own. The cat/witch thing is precisely part of what makes it such a fab name imo. No need to shorten it.

Felicity Elsa - Like this though Felicity is quite 'girly' maybe not the strong feel you're after

Rowena - like it - would see her through life, not common but not out there either.

Madeleine - seems to be very popular at the moment and very often shortened to Maddy, which may not be as 'strong' as you're after.

Darcey Victoria - quite like Darcey prefer Niamh or Tabitha though

Florence - as others have said this name is quite popuar at the moment but I do love it, I've heard it shortened to Florrie recently which I quite liked but you may not feel it makes the statement you're after.

I like Elsa too, it would make a great first name. Like Verity and Eliza (which is on my shorlist this time around) also how about Erin or Harriet?

TroubleAndFyfe · 20/03/2012 18:29

Hi fools Grin
Niamh - nice, do you have an Irish links? You/she will be asked, I have been already with my son, needn't be a problem as long as it won't bother you.
Tabitha willow Isabelle - love this, love twiggy...is she likely to be, er, not twiggy? tabby or iggy as back ups?
Felicity Elsa - really love this, prob my fave, I like Flick as a nn too.
Rowena - not as keen
Madeleine - a little plain compared to the others
Darcey Victoria - strong and beautiful, don't think you should worry about arsey darcey. Excellent choice of mn Wink
Florence - love but way too popular due to the machine Smile

Davinaaddict · 20/03/2012 19:24

Lots of lovely names fools Smile

Twiggy is my favourite, although you might want to consider how you'd feel about any references to Bewitched. I'm not keen on Darcey (sorry!). I love Victoria as a middle name too. I like Rowena as its quite unusual too Smile

I'm afraid we haven't even considered any names for DC2, so I don't have any other suggestions for you and its probably a bit late to start worrying now given that we are now 10 days overdue Grin We were incapable of making a decision until well after DS was born, so you might want to wait until baby makes an appearance before deciding for definite?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/03/2012 21:39

Niamh - like it
Tabitha Willow Isabelle nn Twiggy - dreadful. Don't like Tabitha but even that is good compared to Twiggy, which sounds horribly contrived imho.
Felicity Elsa - like felicity but not Elsa and don't like the sound of them together.
Rowena - really, really hate this, sorry
Madeleine - nice
Darcey Victoria - like this
Florence - like it

Popoozle · 20/03/2012 21:59

The only name I like from your list is Willow, and possibly Niamh.

I really dislike Rowena, it puts me in mind of a bitter & twisted nasty headmistress with a cane Blush.

Willow Victoria is nice Smile.

foolserrand · 22/03/2012 06:59

littlepie I do like Verity, it was on our list a while ago, not sure why it came off tbh. Thanks for reminding me!
CPtart you don't need to apologise for names you do/don't like, I don't like louisa either!
lovingthecoast, EllenParsons, FilterCoffee, MoonHare, Remus and Popoozle, thank you all for your suggestions, you've helped get me a list of 3 names, dh is still determined he doesn't like Niamh, but he's slowly coming round :)
Trouble and Davina, WAVES! Thank you! Davina, I'm far too much of a control freak organised to not have an idea of a name at least before she arrives.

So, the names we've narrowed it down to:

Niamh,
Darcey Victoria - still can't decide on the spelling for Darcey, but am relaxing about arsey. Not easy considering ds can't pronounce the D. :o
Felicity Elsa - do like the idea of swapping them, but would rather she had her own name instead of sharing Elsa with dh's nan.

OP posts:
diddl · 22/03/2012 07:07

Felicity Elsa is by far the nicest imo.

emmyloo2 · 22/03/2012 07:49

Of your final three - I think Felicity Elsa is the nicest. Niamh is nice but I think the spelling/pronunication will be an issue. Darcey sounds more like a nickname tbh.

P.s. Victoria is a gorgeous name so what about that as a first name?

foolserrand · 22/03/2012 09:11

That's ds's favourite. Yes, I have hit the desperate point where I ask a 3 year old his opinion!

Victoria is my mother's name, hence not wanting to use it for a first name, we don't want dd to "share" her name with family.

OP posts:
abbypumpkin · 22/03/2012 09:46

Niamh is my favourite and goes really well with Jack, both simple yet strong. Niamh is well known enough to be pronounce properly but not over popular

StealthNinja · 23/03/2012 04:20

Felicity Elsa is my favourite from your list. I do prefer Elsa Felicity (love Elsa!) but understand what you're saying.

patchesmcp · 25/03/2012 08:39

Love Niamh, it is gorgeous!
Like Darcey, but I can see your concerns with the arsey, although that probably wouldn't be a problem until she got older (if at all)
I also like Willow and Tabitha but the latter does make me think of cats.

Just thought I'd also suggest Charlotte and Olivia :o

foolserrand · 26/03/2012 12:21

Interesting suggestions. Not too keen though.

Perhaps Jessica?
