How would you spell this NN in Welsh?

I have a 3 year old Siân and she is convinced her name actually has two syllables and just wondering how you'd spell it properly. An English name I'd add "ie" on the end but not sure if it works the same in Welsh.

I would spell it Siâni.

CurlyCasper · 20/03/2012 12:52

Doesn't "u" have and "A"/é sound in Welsh? (thinking Cymru) So maybe Siânu?

But I would probably just go for Siâny/ie

CurlyCasper · 20/03/2012 12:52

Or what Linzer said Smile

What Linzer said

What Linzer said - also I'm not sure how Sian is being pronounced with two syllables - can you elaborate?

Doomfinger · 20/03/2012 14:55

Thanks everyone :) I'm bit of a pedant about her hat so I decided I couldn't just stick an English ending on if I'm going to get pedantic over the â. If I'm spelling it outloud I say S I 0226 N Grin

mejon, she calls herself Siân-ny - like Shiney, which she also calls herself sometimes.

Siani (without the hat because that would elongate the 'a') is a popular nn for Sian in wales.

Trying to figure out how to write it phonetically in english - Shanny I think would be the closest

Panadbois · 22/03/2012 19:40

There are a few Si-ans about too, C Ann, different name all together isn't it.

Have seen Sian spelt with a to bach ^, without a to bach and Shan.

Please note that caterpiller in Welsh is Siani flewog ( hairy Siani) :-)

madaboutmadmen · 22/03/2012 19:42

definitely needs the ^ over the a

madaboutmadmen · 22/03/2012 19:42

not putting a ^ shortens the a not lengthens it.
