Georgina or Madeleine?

Can't decide between Georgina or Georgia (Georgie NN for either) or Madeleine - as in Mad-eh-lin - (Maddy/Maddie NN). Grateful for any views. Thanks in advance

I prefer Georgia.

LexieSinclair · 20/03/2012 12:15

Georgina/Georgie Smile

Love Georgia and is on our shorlist!

TinkerMaloo · 20/03/2012 12:58

Georgia, closely followed by Georgina. Dont like Madeleine (or Maddy)

squoosh · 20/03/2012 13:00

Love the nn Georgie for a girl

BuntyPenfold · 20/03/2012 13:05

Madeleine.

abbypumpkin · 20/03/2012 13:56

Love Georgia with nn Georgie. Think Georgia is a bit more up to date and classy than Georgina
Also love Maddy but not any longer version. I think of Madeleine as a French name (not that there's anything worng with that) but think you'd have a bit more trouble havnig to spell it out to people

  1. Georgina - lovely and classic
  2. Georgia - also pretty but not as timeless
  3. Madeleine - OK

I really like Georgia, it is on my longer list. Madeleine is also very nice. Not really keen on Georgina at all. Not sure why, given that it is very similar to Georgia. I think I am just a sucker for 'ia' ending names. Georgia Madeleine is a nice combo for fn and mn.

Trouble100 · 20/03/2012 19:31

Thanks all for your opinions. I also like Maddy but am less keen on the longer version so perhaps we should stick to the Georgie options (these are DH preferences too). Think I like Georgia best but DH prefers Georgina (I don't really like Gina as a NN and Georgia removes this as a possibility) but your comments reassure me that Georgina is a good choice too. Thanks

Georgiana is nice too.

rocket74 · 20/03/2012 20:02

I love Georgia and would use it if possible except my sister got there first (but went and spelt it Jorja).
Really like Georgina too - friend called this and commonly known as George.

Madeleine is ok - spelling can be a bit of a minefield.

All good names.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 20/03/2012 20:10

I love Madeleine, but I prefer the nn Della. I think that most people would spell it your way rather than Madelin/Madilynn/whatever other spelling people use.

I do also love Georgina, but I have never been a fan of Georgia. There are ten Georgia's in my niece's year (she's in Yr 12) so it isn't uncommon.

CPtart · 20/03/2012 20:26

Like Georgina but not Georgie.

Stellan · 20/03/2012 20:42

Georgia & Georgina.

I feel Madeleine is a bit overexposed/popular. Georgia & Georgina are fairly common names but I feel they've been in popular (contemporary) usage for longer.

Kindling · 20/03/2012 21:04

Madeleine, Georgina and Georgia, in that order.

Not really keen on Georgia - to me it sounds like talking with your mouth full. Georgina is far less used and more classic.

tunaday · 22/03/2012 17:55

Obs am biased because my dd is Georgina. We called her Georgie till she went to school and then she was teased "Georgie Porgie", so then she chose Georgina till she was about 11ish. Since then all her friends have always called her Georgie. I think it's a very adaptable name. Georgie - cute. Georgina - sophisticated/grown-up. George - a bit edgie/tomboy-y.

I like Madeleine/Maddie too though.
Always seem to be loads of Georgia's around.
