Ted, Nye, Fred or Frank?

Still TTC after MC but please indulge me in musing over boys names (think DH and I already agree on girls!).

Edward nn Ted
Aneurin nn Nye
Frederick nn Fred, Freddie
Frank (not Francis)

Any thoughts? Be brutal, I can take it Smile

I think Nye, Fred and Ted are lovely!

pinkhebe · 15/03/2012 13:22

I'm slightly biased towards Nye, Ted and Freddie, as they're boys in my son's class and they are lovely friendly, helpful boys Grin

Looks like you've put a fake name in with real ones...Nye?

Sophiesmummie · 15/03/2012 13:26

I love Aneurin, nickname Nye. So cool and underused these days.

Aworryingtrend · 15/03/2012 13:28

Nye looks like an anacronym for New Years Eve. That was my first reaction. Edward is lovely.

tammytoby · 15/03/2012 13:33

I like Aneurin. There is one in my ds's class - I hadn't heard of it before. Just googled it: "Aneurin is a Welsh boy name. The meaning of the name is myth name; all gold; very precious little one."

So a lovely choice, especially as it is quite underused these days.

Edward and Frederick are very widely used already and a little dull in comparison imo. I don't like the sound of Frank - it sounds so harsh.

CaoNiMa · 15/03/2012 13:34

Anyone who reads Cherry Menlove's blog will think you stole Nye from her!

LingDiLong · 15/03/2012 13:39

I love Aneurin - not so keen on the others though sorry.

mopsyflopsy · 15/03/2012 13:42

Aneurin would be my top choice (lovely name, meaning and underused), followed by Frank (Frankie is cute for a little one). Edward and Frederick are a little boring and quite popular already.

Tuppenyrice · 15/03/2012 13:47

Id never heard of Nye until I met one and he is a great kid - quirky and interesting.
The others are very popular if that bothers you, but still good names.
Frank is fun.

rachel234 · 15/03/2012 13:47

Aneurin is lovely. Nye is a cool nickname.

I also like Frederick but, as others have said, Freddie is quite widely used.

TheUncannyValley · 15/03/2012 13:53

Edward is very nice. Not fond of Ted though.
Aneurin isn't.
I hate Frederick/Fred.
Frank is hideous. You can't call a lovely newborn an ugly, harsh name like 'Frank'.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 15/03/2012 17:26

Aneurin is the best of these by far. Good, strong name. And Nye (why not Neu?) is great too.

Edward/Ted - dull
Frederick/Freddie - dreadful
Frank - worse than dreadful. Sorry

mayanna123 · 15/03/2012 18:40

Edward/Ted and Frederick/Fred are very widely used and, as others have said, quite dull.

I dislike the sound of Frank.

Aneurin, on the other hand, is a name I've not come across much but I like the look and sound of it (and the meaning) and the fact that it isn't already widely used. That would be my choice. Nye is a cool nickname too!

Spink · 15/03/2012 18:46

Nye is lovely, though Aneurin reminds me of aneurysm.
Frank is great, you can soften it to Frankie when he's little I guess if it feels harsh. Our ds is a Frank Smile after a very lovely uncle. We do get negative reactions but we live it .... Obviously Wink
I like the other two too but not so much.

shuckleberryfinn · 15/03/2012 18:52

Eeh, I have a Nye. :D so definitely that one.

mumbaisapphire · 15/03/2012 18:56

Aneurin Bevan, Labour Health Minister and founder of the NHS. Don't think I have ever heard the name before, other than in that context. Nye to me is New Years Eve - how are you pronouncing it? Nigh or Ny-eee? Not keen on the way it sounds either way tbh, although I suppose there are plenty of Simon's out there that live with Si.

Prefer Edward out of your choices, but would go for Ed not Ted. I am always reminded of the Fast Show sketch and poor Ted.

DilysPrice · 15/03/2012 18:57

Nye is great if you're welsh, less so if you're not. Excellent name, more common than it used to be but still quite rare.

herethereandeverywhere · 17/03/2012 00:32

Nye "Nigh". My cousin has one after the great Aneurin Bevan (and a Kier after Kier Hardie Smile). I think you have to be comfortable with your leftie status to have one though.

Italiangreyhound · 17/03/2012 01:11

Edward nn Ted - lovely.

FilterCoffee · 17/03/2012 08:47

Frederick or Edward.

birdofthenorth · 17/03/2012 10:00

Thanks all. Nye is still the frontrunner! I think our lefty credentials are well-established enough to get away with it!

Definitely Nye Grin

madaboutmadmen · 18/03/2012 15:52

I like Aneirin, love Nye too. Aneurin is actually a mispelling but has become more popular because of Aneurin Bevan. Aneirin is the original old Welsh form which dates back to the Gododdin, early Welsh poets:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_Gododdin

if he's going to be Nye though, he spelling won't matter too much.
