I like it but not sure what others think?

Love it, classic name.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 15/03/2012 08:40

No, it means soldier which I am not keen on.
Also it is very very very very bad with DH surname so I am definitely biased against it as a first name.

autumnchild · 15/03/2012 08:42

I really like it

LucyManga · 15/03/2012 08:46

Like

Iheartpasties · 15/03/2012 08:48

no, i hate it, far too posh for my liking

welovesausagedogs · 15/03/2012 08:52

It's alright, prefer Milo though

mopsyflopsy · 15/03/2012 10:07

It is like calling your baby Kilometres, sorry.

Unless you are not in the UK (where people measure distance in Miles) but in Europe where Miles are not used.

hellokitty123 · 15/03/2012 10:11

I don't like it, I'm afraid. It does sound like the plural of Mile.

It is also a very 'English' name in that it wouldn't sound great in other languages (e.g. Mee-less in German or Meel in French Grin).

Somersaults · 15/03/2012 10:15

Love it. My BIL is Myles and DD would have been Myles if she was a boy. Prefer it with a y though.

PercyFilth · 15/03/2012 11:33

Like it.

TheSurgeonsMate · 15/03/2012 11:47

I sometimes feel like my whole purpose in life is to come onto MN threads to insist yet again that it's not like calling your baby Kilometres. And to mention Miles Davis. Who is, I say again, the personification of cool.

hellokitty123 · 15/03/2012 13:11

But TheSurgoeons, the OP has asked for our opinions. And to my ears Miles sounds like the plural of Mile. And, in the UK at least, Miles are used every day all around us to define distance (e.g. 10 miles to London etc).

hellokitty123 · 15/03/2012 13:12

And whether Mr Davis's is also called their son Miles really doesn't change that perception in my mind.

shrinkingnora · 15/03/2012 13:13

Miles is lovely.

redrubyshoes · 15/03/2012 13:14

I love it and would definitely use it.

Sophiesmummie · 15/03/2012 13:25

I don't like the sound of it. Would you shorten to Mile Grin?

tammytoby · 15/03/2012 13:34

Too metric for me too, I'm afraid.

Bellaholland · 15/03/2012 13:34

Hi the issues with Mile as in distance is not a problem as I don't live in the UK. Dutch husband and live in NL where we use KL!

lilibet · 15/03/2012 13:41

Love it!

mopsyflopsy · 15/03/2012 13:43

If you're in Holland and only use Kilometres then Miles would be ok. How would you pronounce it in Dutch - I would think more like Mee-less?

TheUncannyValley · 15/03/2012 13:55

Love it.

nizlopi · 15/03/2012 13:57

I prefer Giles

CecilyP · 15/03/2012 13:57

It would only be like calling your baby kilometres if kilometres was a common surname, which it is not.

I like the name and it was on our shortlist, but we went for something that sounded better with our last name.

rachel234 · 15/03/2012 14:06

I have to agree about the association with Miles (measure of distance) because Miles is mainly used to define distance in the UK. So when someone calls 'Miles' it does not automatically register as a name.

Giles is good alternative though.
