Una from band the Saturdays had a little girl called Aoife Belle!! Well done Una on having a normal name in showbiz. Aoife is a very common name over here in Ireland pronounced eee-ffaa. Una is also a very proud Irish woman-congrats to her & her fiance. Aoife is blessed with beautiful genes!

Aw, I love Aoife, but DH vetoed it.

Lovely news, lovely name only vaguely aware who the Saturdays are.

Tooblunt2012 · 13/03/2012 21:25

Aoife was my first choice had we had a girl - but all boys here! Love the name & congrats Una. Who's the dad?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/03/2012 21:26

I wanted Aoife but couldn't use it. Lovely name.

HahaGrin

I love Aoife. DH would never have allowed me to have an Irish name being a proud Scotsman, but I think it is beautiful.

Newtothisstuff · 13/03/2012 21:45

How do you say that name ?? I've been trying to work it out all night ??

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/03/2012 21:46

Ee-fa

Newtothisstuff · 13/03/2012 21:48

Ee fa ???

SecondTimeLucky · 13/03/2012 21:51

Eee-fa. But the F is quite soft. It can even almost sound like 'Eva' if you aren't listening properly, particularly in some accents.

Newtothisstuff · 13/03/2012 21:58

Ahhhh pretty !! Smile

Oh dear, she'll have a life of constantly having to spell her name.

I think it is lovely. No trouble spelling it here. (Not Irish in case you were wondering!)

whenskiesaregrey · 13/03/2012 22:44

Oh what!!! Great, one of my only bloody baby names and its now a celebrity baby name!

CailinDana · 13/03/2012 22:44

Aoife is a ridiculously common name in Ireland, and not one you would ever have to spell. I know 3 Aoifes. It's a lovely name :)

CailinDana · 13/03/2012 22:46

Whenskies - I think Aoife is the kind of name that doesn't suffer for being associated with a celebrity, like Sarah or Kate, it's sort of classic, I would go for it if I were you. I would love to name a girl of mine Aoife but I have a cousin by that name so it's out :(

Yes, I like Aoife too, and I'm not even Irish! A nice real name amidst all the Blues, Sevens and what have you....

whenskiesaregrey · 13/03/2012 22:51

I hope so Cailin, I'd hate for people to think we had picked it because of a Saturday! Birth announcements may need to be issued with a disclaimer Hmm

CailinDana · 13/03/2012 22:55

If you were in Ireland no one would think twice about it. It might raise a few more eyebrows in Britain as it would be considered an unusual name, but at least more people would know how to pronounce it!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/03/2012 06:47

There are loads of Aoifes, even in England. It's definitely not going to be celeb associated.
But they seem like nice slebs anyway.

squoosh · 14/03/2012 10:43

Calling an Irish baby girl Aoife is making as much of a statement as calling an English baby girl Kate.

This isn't a criticism by any means, it's quite refreshing for a sleb baby to be given an ordinary name.

squoosh · 14/03/2012 10:44

When I was in primary school in the eighties I seem to remember 4 Aoife's in my class of about 30.
