The JJDuggars: with the same initial, how do they label possessions...

.... Clothes, cupcakes, craft projects, pies and all the other things that essentially need ownership declared?

Same question to all parents who have repeated initials within their brood.

Perhaps by using the child's name rather than just the first initial...?

trumpton · 13/03/2012 21:21

DS was Bloggs J . DD1 was J Bloggs . DD2 was just Bloggs . One set of name tapes ordered < J Bloggs J > and some nifty folding did all.

I know a family that are all A Anon. Even the parents both have names beginning with A and their surname begins with A.

It used to drive my friend mad because there were 3 brothers. So a letter addressed to Mr A Anon could belong to 4 people.

Not sure how they went about marking things though.

FootprintsInTheSnow · 14/03/2012 07:29

Full names are all very sweet - but I get cramp labelling for my brood of 3 (especially when they bake pies, and demand cast iron identifying marks to ensure that they only eat 'their' pies with their favourite fillings. How many dough letters is it possible to carve before you start to lose your mind?).

And - yes - I've inadvertently opened stacks of my mum's bank mail, since we have the same initial.

The Duggar children don't go to school, so don't need their clothes or art projects labelling.

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2012 07:13

Yes, Home Ed cuts out the need for name labels. Grin

SilentBoob · 15/03/2012 07:15

They have a shared wardrobe too - just pick the appropriate size from the rail.

OddBoots · 15/03/2012 07:22

I'm not too sure it's a family that has personal possessions, only family/communal ones.

FootprintsInTheSnow · 15/03/2012 07:42

I dunno - we're quite a communal family - aboy school clothes tend to be labelled with surname only for seamless hand-m-downs but woe betide if DS1 picks up DS2s junk model to finish.

I would say home ed would put more pressure on not letting the sibling tensions build up.

I think respect for the individual and individual 'special' things is 1.01 to a positive group dynamic. Distinguishing is kind of the point of a name.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get the latest series online?

YouTube seems to be remoing episodes as quickly as they're listed.

MrsJoeDuffy · 15/03/2012 22:58

or their post ? Miss J Duggar, Mr J Duggar ..... X 19

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 16/03/2012 17:20

I am one of 5 siblings and all of our names begin with the same letter. (J)
3 girls, 2 boys.
We all had our own name labels that had middle initial too so J A surname or J C surname.
Post etc really wasnt as much of an issue as people think it is. Most things would be addressed Miss J A Surname or Miss First name Surname. even if it was Miss J Surname, one of us would open it and if it wasn't for us, you'd put it on the side or on the persons bed. No big deal. But then we didn't have any post coming through at that age that was hugely private/confidential I suppose. But my 2 sisters have only just moved out so up until recently they would still get bank statements, credit cards bills (important letters basically) and it's still not an issue!

FootprintsInTheSnow · 16/03/2012 19:44

How did you keep track of - say - toothbrushes? We have 3 DC (blue, green and pink) - but I've been known to permanent marker an initial on things where it's ambiguous - and I'd imagine that by 5 dc you can't pull off the 'theme colour for each child' trick.

OddBoots · 16/03/2012 20:06

Maybe just number them? Hmm :) (Sorry, my slightly warped humour there)

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 20/03/2012 23:30

Re toothbrushes...we just had 5 different ones? Well 7 really including mum and dad. Not sure why you'd think that was a huge issue really? There's obviously more than 5 different Looking toothbrushes available? Wink
