Has anyone else had this??

She's my first dd (I have 2 ds's) and I'm just so undecided on her name. Everyone in family says its nice and like it. When I say "how about ...." they just say no. With ds's I never has this, and I had name ready for her is she was a boy. Arggh, I wish I could be happy with it.

why do you feel it's not right. that it doesn't suit her, or it was a last minute decision and you don't feel right with the decision?

I like it, I don't know any Jessica's!

My DM did something similar with my DB - she was so surprised he was a DS (was sure he was a girl) she forgot the name she had planed to call him and pulled a name they'd discussed and dismissed out of the air, he was 4 months old before she realised Hmm, but she just left it despite not really liking his name, and its fine - I think the original one would have suited him better, but his name is his name now - he's 19.

Is the name you want a really different name to what she has? Is there another name you WANT her to be called or are you just not sure about the one she has, cos if there's not a one name it may be better to leave it and nn her something else - doesn't even have to be something similar, we'll nn our Elizabeth 'Theo' when she comes cos I like both names but HATE Theadora. You may end up being unsure about what you change it to if its not a name you are passionate about.

Whats the name?

3boysgirlontheway · 13/03/2012 11:32

I had that with DS3. He did not become his name until he was about 6 months old, I just called him "the baby" until then, and when someone said his name I did not associate it with him. The thing is I loved his name, and still love it now. It might be the same for you, it might just be a slow burner type of thing.

MamaMaiasaura · 13/03/2012 11:33

I think I wasn't prepared for a dd, over the moon but a shock.

I never really finalised on a name and was torn between jessica and Amelia. Loved lots of names which family already used. I know it's her name, but I guess, like when I had dolls I want to change her name Blush

my daughter who is almost 19 name is Jessica Emily surname and she really loves it, several people do shorten it to Jess but she has no issue with that. Its a name that is cute for a baby but does grow with her x

MamaMaiasaura · 13/03/2012 13:08

Flowers - thank you.

I remember feeling unsure that we'd made the right decision with DD's name, but once she got to a year old she suddenly seemed to suit her name and grow into it. Now she sounds really cute saying her name it's definitely grown on me. I think Jessica is a lovely name.

MamaMaiasaura · 13/03/2012 15:28

Thanks monstrosity.

I can't actually think of a name I'd actually prefer to call her. It's just I don't want to have gotten it wrong.

I like Jessica Emily as a name - I know loads of Amelias and Emilias but only 1 Jessica and she's 29. As you don't have another name you'd prefer I would just enjoy dd and see her grow into her name rather than stressing.

If you'd called her something daft then I may not be saying that but it really is pretty.

PlumPeridot · 14/03/2012 00:48

I think it's normal for a name to feel a little foreign at first. However, if you really dislike it, change it. We changed the name of our first and nobody has blinked an eye. She wasn't two days old, either. You can PM me if you want more support!

'I can't actually think of a name I'd actually prefer to call her. It's just I don't want to have gotten it wrong.'

  • Then you haven't got it wrong! It's just that you're getting used to it.

Jessica is a really good choice.

  • One spelling
  • Everyone's heard of it
  • Traditional, but pretty
  • Not madly popular at the moment, she won't be one of 3 in her class
  • Good nicknames. Jess is brilliant - pretty sounding but good for a tomboy too. Also Jessie, Decca.

Really a brilliant choice. Well done!

MamaMaiasaura · 14/03/2012 21:36

Doctor - I think you are prob right. Still getting used to having a dd and I guess that includes her name.

I like the name you've chosen. She has lots of options for nicknames too as she gets older.

GeekPie · 15/03/2012 00:02

I love Jessica.

This was what I decided I was going to call my future DD when I was about 15. But I couldn't use it when DD was born because I have a close family member used it first :(

I love Jess and Jessie too.
