Me again, sorry...

Really love Harper for a middle name for a boy...

Is it too girly?

Not bothered about the celeb associations!

Thanks x

I don't see it as a girl's name, but I think the next generation will, and they are the ones who will count.

lisaro · 11/03/2012 23:10

It's bloody awful on a boy or girl. Sorry.

lurkinginthebackground · 11/03/2012 23:13

I don't see it as feminine but now that the Beckham's have used it things might change.

therewasalittlegirl · 11/03/2012 23:13

Thanks Bunty, I'm thinking the same as you, but does it matter if it's only being used as a middle?

I think it's better to be on the safe side.
I know a baby boy called Hazel Kay and everyone is so sorry for him.

PercyFilth · 12/03/2012 01:27

It's a surname.

babyblabber · 12/03/2012 08:26

i would think of it as a girl's name coz of harper lee who wrote "to kill a mockingbird". raging the beckhams used it coz i think it's a really pretty name.

PercyFilth · 12/03/2012 09:35

Harper Lee's full name is Nelle Harper Lee.

abbypumpkin · 12/03/2012 11:33

Without any connections I would have thought it was more suited to a boy as I do with a lot of the surname-turned-firstnames such as Mckenzie, Taylor, Riley.
The only problem is that now the Beckhams have used it there will be lots of copycat parents naming little girls Harper this year.
I still think it's unisex though and don't think it matters too much for a middle name.
If you like it then use it

shoobidoo · 12/03/2012 13:17

It sounds very masculine. I'd never thought of it as a girls' name before the Beckhams chose it. So yes, go ahead and use as your son's middle name.

mathanxiety · 12/03/2012 17:29

Too girly.

CecilyP · 12/03/2012 17:48

Whether it is seen as a girl's name in the future will depend if, because of the Beckhams, it catches on as a girl's name. It could end up unisex, like Ashley or it may never become popular at all. However, I don't think it matters for a middle name. Many people will use a family surname for a middle name and Harper is definitely is a surname.

ButterPecanMuffin · 12/03/2012 18:39

It's all boo to me, nothing feminine about it, so I say use it.

ButterPecanMuffin · 12/03/2012 18:39

Boy I mean, not boo!

FilterCoffee · 12/03/2012 19:54

I don't think "girl's name" but I do think "surname" and I'm not keen on surnamey first names.

LittlePandaBear · 12/03/2012 20:25

I knew of a little boy Harper in a baby group last year, born before the Beckham's girl! I do think it's a little girly but agree that it's less important for a middle name.

therewasalittlegirl · 12/03/2012 20:31

Thank you all! I think it is at the top of our list for a middle name at the moment! :)
