I'm bored with my children's names, can I change them?

Since naming DS3 (9 mo) a great name, I've realised I'm bored with the other 2's names. They are 7 and 4, can I change them to
something more fun and interesting?

Try adding an -ella or -ina or -stasia to the end of their names if they are girls. That'll spice them up a bit!

ItWasThePenguins · 09/03/2012 15:58

You can change names by deed poll (small fee) but will be a hassle to change bank accounts/doctors/school details.

Ask what they think (particularly older DC).. they might be really against it, or enjoy helping choose a new name.

redrubyshoes · 09/03/2012 16:01

Can't you just swap your DC's with someone else's DC's who have names you really like?

Less hassle than filling in all the deed poll forms and passport forms etc

Ooh some good suggestions! Grin I like the adding 'ella' to the names. They are both boys but it's not up to them. I named them in the first place. Maybe I could offer the optional ending 'osaurus' if I'm feeling kind but Oscarella has a nice ring to it.

Swapping names with a friend is a possible solution but they mostly have fairly standard names.

ooh good idea redruby

I think I'd just think up some good nincknames and hope it catches on and they become known by their nicknames

HappyCamel · 09/03/2012 16:18

Try adding some random punctuation, like will.i.am

Zipitydooda · 09/03/2012 16:19

Ooh you meant swapping the actual children ...... Now that's something I hadn't thought of, it opens up LOTS of possibilities!
Can I eBay them?

I change my DC's names on a monthly basis just to keep them on their toes. Its a bugger having to change the name tags in all their school clothes though.

redrubyshoes · 09/03/2012 16:47

I know someone with a Rosie and a William, but she wants the full names of your DC's before handing her kids over.

She is quite fond of them. Confused

ChippyMinton · 09/03/2012 16:48

Insist on everyone calling them by their given names, and you may be horrified pleasantly surprised by the plethora of weird and wonderful nicknames that get invented to subvert you.

redrubyshoes · 09/03/2012 16:53

All just call them all Dave.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 09/03/2012 17:07

I do this on a regular basis, whichever perfume seems to be in vogue this year, the latest 'must-go' holiday destination, that sort of thing,

At the moment we have Princess Nite, Forbidden EupHoriA and namib.

RabidEchidna · 09/03/2012 17:10

I just call everyone Fred

Astronaut79 · 09/03/2012 17:15

Give them a more indivijool spe11i4ng.

Floggingmolly · 09/03/2012 17:18

Call them Bear!

baskingseals · 09/03/2012 17:22

just ask them to name themselves

4yo ds doesn't like his name. I asked him what he would like to be called.
'Crispie' as in cheese and onion flavour i think.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 09/03/2012 17:23

Go to a busy soft play over the weekend, find 2 whose names you like and take them home instead - leave a note on your two explaining, tell them it's fine to re-gift if they find the names boring too.

RabidEchidna · 09/03/2012 17:33

You could swap their names with those of your pets

SecondTimeLucky · 09/03/2012 17:35

Have you thought about making anagrams of their current names?

duchesse · 09/03/2012 17:51

Rabid, I do that anyway! And all my children have the same name anyway: DSDD1DD2DD3Dog1Dog2[lightbulbmoment]ActualName!

It's a bit of a mouthful but it works for me.

Sorry, I'm sure Rosie and William are lovely but I think I'd get bored of their names too (in spite of the novelty of a girl)!

I met a baby called Fox recently, I wouldn't get bored of that, probably.

Often they get called 'which one are you?' or 'you' by me. Perhaps something like 'thing 1' and 'thing 2'. Spelt in a strange way?

I did teach a girl a few years ago in y6 who changed her name. By the end if the year, I really couldn't remember her given name at all.

It is quite boring having the same name throughout life I agree - how about going the Gwinny way and using fruit based names? I recently changed my dc's names to Moo and Sausage - we've never looked back..
