Talia

DC4 is due in a couple of months and we are really struggling for names. If she's pink her middle name is Kate, if he's a boy we don't even have that decided!

The elder siblings are Alan Stuart, Amy Lorraine and David Luke and worried that Talia, our current leader for girls names is a bit less 'normal' and doesn't 'go', but not sure how much that matters? Have been through phases of Bethany Kate (until friend nicked Bethany for my Goddaughter!) Philippa Kate (till we realised that she'd sound like a royal wedding souvenir!)

For a boy I like Samuel but we know 2 locally, as well as family friends who named their little boy that a fortnight ago so probably overdone! Peter is a possible for family politics but no major likes - apart from James - but can't have an Amy and a Jamie! Also like Alex for girl or boy, but again don't think having 2 'Al's would be too clever.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Talia is gorgeous - feminine, classic but underused these days. Sounds fine with your other dcs.

Agree that Sam/Samuel is overdone (I know loads of little ones) as is Alex and James imo. I do like Peter very much (and that isn't used as widely already). Or how about Michael, Quentin, Dominic or Philip?

tryingtobecoolandtough · 09/03/2012 12:43

My DD2 is Talia May, and people always comment on how pretty it is Smile

We have only ever met one other, and that was in Greece. Apparently it means 'blossom' so its a lovely choice for this time of year when the blossom is on the trees.

bagelmonkey · 09/03/2012 12:48

Go with Talia. It's a beautiful name.

mayanna123 · 09/03/2012 12:50

Talia is lovely. Not keen on Sam/Samuel either though.

bagelmonkey · 09/03/2012 12:50

James doesn't have to be Jamie - he could be Jim or Jimmy or even James.

MaMattoo · 09/03/2012 12:51

I like it though it means applause in Persian! Tanya also i like and tanaya.

FilterCoffee · 09/03/2012 14:17

Talia Kate would be a lovely name.

How about Jonathan, Jacob, Oliver, Thomas, Daniel, Matthew for a boy?

Sandalwood · 09/03/2012 14:21

So long as your surname's not Watt.

Yorky · 09/03/2012 21:03

Grin to Sandalwood, it isn't we're OK on that front!

Thank you all for the positive responses, liking Dominic and Jonathon for a boy, will see what DH thinks

I love Talia it's gorgeous

Devora · 09/03/2012 23:38

Talia is lovely (I wanted it for my dd, but couldn't for various reasons). I know only one other Talia.

Sam lovely too.

CaoNiMa · 10/03/2012 05:48

It's always struck me as slightly chavvy...

LittlePandaBear · 10/03/2012 07:52

I don't think it's chavvy at all - it's lovely. I also like Dalia/Dahlia.

PhasesRUs · 11/03/2012 13:37

I know a Talia and a Thalia, both under 8 ? for what that's worth! Like the name. Not chavvy.

TheEpilator · 11/03/2012 13:56

Oooh I love Talia. DS1 had an imaginary friend called Talian (a giraffe Confused ) and I wanted to call DS2 that, or Talia if he'd been a DD, but it would have been a tongue twister with our surname. Do it.

agora1 · 12/03/2012 13:39

Beautiful!

abbypumpkin · 13/03/2012 09:04

It is not really in the same style as the others but I don't think that matters (though in the US it seems to be of major importance). Each child is an individual not part of a 'sibset' and they'll likely spend more time living away from the family group in their lives than being one of four siblings together (did that make sense?).
I agree though having two Als or a Jamie and an AMy wouldn't really work.
I don't think there would be a problem with Phillipa Kate as most wouldn't notice the connection (unless you're planning to use both names as a first)

marshmallowpies · 13/03/2012 12:38

Talia Kate sounds lovely to me. I'd go for it!

It is a little more unusual than the other names, but Talia and Amy as girls names go very well together, and they are all about the same length which for some reason matters to me (I always used to think when I was little that children with 'short' names which couldn't be turned into nicknames would be jealous of siblings with 'long' names...strange, I know...)

EdlessAllenPoe · 13/03/2012 12:45

i know a talia. it means 'Princess' lovely name...

Cewafwb · 13/03/2012 13:15

Please pronounce Talia or Thalia for me?

Yorky · 13/03/2012 14:36

Marshmallow - I know what you mean about the length of names, it did bother me that most of the pink names we'd been considering for bump were so much longer than current DCs names, although my concern was mostly feeling sorry for them spelling it!
I do know RL sisters called Toni and Natasha - and that doesn't seem fair, their middle names are just as different in length

I was wondering how much of an 'r' to put before the 'l', knew a lady who was spelt Tarnya which I think is OTT but basically I pronounce it Tal -ee- a, or Tal -ya

Thank you all for being gentle with me

JasperJohns · 13/03/2012 14:40

I know 2, it's a nice name. I pronounce it Tar-lia.

marshmallowpies · 13/03/2012 14:49

I'd pronounce it Tarlia, probably with the emphasis on the first syllable TAR-lia, but if it had an H on the end (Taliah or Tahliah) I'd say Tar-LEEA.

PrincessScrumpy · 13/03/2012 17:50

I don't get names having to "go" like children are part of a set. They are individual and will spend most of their life living apart (unless you live in a commune but it's unlikely). Go with Talia, it's unusual but not way out there. By dc4 I think you have the right to be a bit different.

sunnyday123 · 13/03/2012 17:53

not a fan sorry - another one who thinks its a bit chavvy!
