Think I'll do this for every month, quite fun for me to see the patterns and the slightly silly names, plus it assures me each month that no one has the name I have picked out for DC1 due in the summer

Last month the girls definitely had the more "oddball" names but there weren't too many crazy offerings. This month is a different story!!

To be honest, the name I'm planing to use I would never dream of using in the UK - the accent makes it sound like a completely different word - a noun, even - whereas now that I'm firmly established back here it's quite a tame offering compared to some! (Don't worry, I'll include DS's name whatever it may be on the July list!)

Oh - and there are tons of Aubrey's here in the US - I don't know any who are boys. I think people use it as an alternative to the older style Audrey. But the US is the playground for naming girls with traditional boys names - after all, there was a female Elijah last month.

I'm shocked that little "kamyra" didn't even get a *. Would that be pronounced like camera or chimera?? Wow.

Are there many Braylons OP or is that quite unusual? It sounds like a brand name to my ears!

Lula I'm fairly sure it's ka-MY-ruh. I've heard it before so it wasn't starred :-/

And Braylon / Braylen / Brayden = very common. Haven't seen the Braylon spelling before but it's certainly in the same vein.

Interesting that Danica is Slavic. Makes sense - I know a Slavic Manica and she pronounces it like that. My cousin's little girl however, is pronounced 'Dannicka' .

The Danica I know is a "Dann-nick-a" as well.

I was thinking 'Cool!' Someone named their child after a great Rock/metal band.
Then I remembered that the band called themselves after The Never Ending Story.

I suppose pronouncing Danica as Danika is the same sight-driven approach as gives us variations like Eksavier for Xavier.

I was particularly wowed at Atreyu. Sad thing is, all the kids in his class will be like "what is the never-ending story? Your mom made your name up." Sad, really.

There is a race driver named Danica Patrick (pr Dannicka).

But the spelling of Mollee? Awful.

The actress from The Wonder Years (and The West Wing) is called Danica. Only time I have ever heard the name.

Yes, the US racing driver, along with US actresses, do not appear to be using the European pronunciation.

Just as there are many people who have a Xavier and pronounce the 'X' as in Eksavier, you can pronounce a name as you like. But when you are making a new change, especially when 'importing' an established name then going by sight not sound, it's going to sound all wrong to the original users, in this case Europeans.

I suppose it is similar to the puzzlement I would feel if say the name James were pronounced "Jam-ess".

Livingston i suppose you could call her livie, i love Tatum though :)
