Name Inspiration: Italian (ish) sounding girls names

My husbands family is italian (but now UK based), and we have a longish Italian surname. Looking for a short and cute Italian (ish sounding not strictly) girls name.

Here is what we have so far, but nothing feels that inspired so far - so inspiration/input needed!

Cara
Rosa
Mia
Carina
Gia/Gianna
Pia
Lia (pronounced Leah)
Lara
Liliana
Rosalia
Sophia

For middle names I like Juliette, Beatrice, Rose

Lia Rose is probably my fav right now..

All suggestions welcome! :)

Lia is lovely- you could use Rosalia and then Lia as a nickname? You couldn't use Rose as a middle name then though. Or you could use Amalia (Lia) Rose.

They're all lovely names though, although I don't know if I'd go with Pia, that's asking for trouble!

Rosa
Carla

Inez? I totally love the name Inez. Grin

We're in a similar situation to you but with a bit of french family thrown in there too! I love Lia and Rosa and also the midle names Juliette and Beatrice (which is on my own list). Other Italian names I lika are Marta, Francesca and Ariana.

I really LOVE Lia, has always been one of my favourite girls names. Also love Sophia and Lara from your list. My other favourite Italian girls name is Chiara.

Gorgeous list!!

Octavia -well it's Latin, but close enough. Have been liking this name since Octavia Spencer won her Oscar.

Francesca with Frankie as nn

Daria? I love Daria.

FSB · 29/02/2012 22:35

Please don't call her Francesca... I'm a Francesca and have spent my life having people automatically shorten it to Fran (aquaintences, teachers, colleagues, random sales people on the phone!!!!)

Drives me nuts!!! Angry

Doitnicelyplease · 01/03/2012 01:08

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I love Lucia but it is a family name that has been used by others, the longer names are nice (Allessandra, Octavia, Isabella) but I find them a bit flowery for my tastes, I guess I prefer short and sweet.

Any more suggestions out there pretty please :)

I can't understand why anyone would want to give their daughter a name that sounds like Leer - whether you spell it Lia or Leah.

If you like Juliette then how about Julia as a first name instead? Not very common nowadays, and is said the same as Italian Giulia.

foxeeroxee · 01/03/2012 01:45

My choice would be mia though as thats the name i chose for my dd i may be biased ;-)

claireinmodena · 01/03/2012 01:54

Anna
Emma
Silvia
Cristina
Alessia
Sara
Clara
Linda
Angela
valeria
Rita
Greta
Elisa
Lisa

Just a few more options! Good luck!

Marisa is really pretty. Pronounced Mar-EE-sa

mybrainsthinkingfuckyouagain · 01/03/2012 02:57

Boo moo - I adore Lucia but if you can't have that then mine would be

Mia and Cara as a middle name or other way round

Mia Cara / Cara Mia means my beloved doesn't it?

mybrainsthinkingfuckyouagain · 01/03/2012 02:59

Or Lara Valentina...

Would only use Francesca if Cesca was the nn

sashh · 01/03/2012 04:42

Claudia

SofiaAmes · 01/03/2012 04:46

If you are going to use Sofia, please use the italian spelling with an "f" and not the greek spelling with a "ph"....I might be a little partial, but I think it's prettier.

CheerfulYank · 01/03/2012 04:53

Natalia? Could also be Lia for short.

Alessandra...I think this is beautiful :)

Cosima is different and cute, and Coco is an adorable nn in my opinion.

Magdalena? Can use Maggie or Maddie or Lena if you want a nn.

Elisabetta?

sarahbanshee · 01/03/2012 05:55

Bianca?

Flimflammery · 01/03/2012 06:16

Half Italian friend of ours called her DD Chiara (pronounced Key-ara)
