Hello all. Please can you give me your opinions on our shortlist, in particular which of them will date the best/ least well. I'm keen to avoid a name that'll be old hat in a few years time but am not really keen on any of the timeless classics.

Jasmine
Molly
Lily

Exactly, channel - there's plenty that you can do. Confused

Of course, you may land on the one name that is not even in the top 100 list right now, but which takes off in another couple of years, but seriously, come on...!

If you really don't want a popular-likely-to-date name, then don't choose a popular name! It's not rocket science.

I can't imagine anyone ever having Molly short for Mallory.
That's a big stretch!

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 29/02/2012 01:49

No bigger a stretch than Daisy or Polly for Margaret, or something like Bess or Lilabet for Elizabeth, or Nell for Helena/Eleanor.

You can use any abbreviated form you like, you know - no-one's going to lock you up and throw away the key for illegal infringement of correct usage of nicknames. Wink

I think the Jasmine train left the station when people started using it Kre8ively: Jazmyn, Jasmyn, Jazzmin et al.

I think Jasmine is already dated (see above - creative spellings and all that), Molly is fine (although I find it hard to see as anything other than a name for a little girl), and Lily will date. I'd choose another name if I were you.
