We would like to call our daughter Anna Maria (nn Annie), but are unsure how to officially name her. Should it be Anna Maria, Anna-Maria or Annamaria (I think this is the Spanish way, possibly with one 'n'). Both names need to be her first name, iyswim.

WWYD?

I think you can do whatever you like really. Personally, I think Anna Maria looks nicest, but in this country, if you want both parts to be considered her first name (rather than first name + middle name, IYSWIM), then it would probably be easier to go hyphenated or join it all together.

That said, my own DD has two separate names which we gave her with the intention of using the first one. When she was about 5 she decided that she really liked both, so tends to refer to herself as Firstname Middlename, and writes it on everything, even in its un-hyphenated state.

Love it. Anna Maria.

And I'm Susanna Maria Smile and I nearly called my daughter Anna Maria.

My DD1 has a name a bit like this only in French (one of the names you are contemplating plus one other). When choosing her name I didn't like the complication of the hyphen so I just left them as [name] [name] [surname], but people tended to call her just by the first name and that stuck. In her late teens she started using the full name though.

If you want both names to be used I would either use the hyphen or go with Annamaria. Some people here on MN don't like hyphenated names, but I think it's an English cultural bias. I don't see what the fuss is about, being Irish.

I think Anna Maria looks best.

Anna Maria.

Somehow so much more grown up and dignified without the hyphen. Lovely name

OMG I might be giving myself away here but that's my name! I like the classic spelling (non hyphenated, two words) best as it also gives your daughter more options.
What can I say, great name ;)

Lovely name btw. Anna is on my list and so is Marie.
