Would you use a regional name without being able to 'claim' it for your own?

We have got the name Angus on our short list for ds but neither of us are scottish (except several generations back).

I'm wondering what the mn jury is on using a name with strong associations which you cannot 'rightfully' claim....

'Fine, it's a name and if you like it why not?' Or 'a very english Angus is just all wrong'...???

If you like it use it - should it matter that it's a Scottish name - i wouldn't of thought so Hmm

exexpat is right on the money. Gwyn = boys name, Gwen = girls name. Just sounds very odd to us Welsh if you spell girls names with a wyn ending - bit like getting the masculine and feminine endings mixed up in French, no one will understand what on earth you are trying to say.

Just out of interest, I know some names, like Angus, have become popular south of the border, but would people feel comfortable using names from places further afield? I've got a Welsh background and my DH is Arabic so we're happy using any names from those cultures, but wouldn't dream of using, for e.g., a Japanese name, no matter how much we liked it. It would just seem totally peculiar to me and unless there was some strong personal association (I'd lived in Tokyo for 10 yrs) then I wouldn't do it.
