Really feminine girls names....

I like really feminine frilly girls names, possibly french sounding like;

Vivienne
Evangeline
Genevieve

Possibly;
Angelina
Angeline

etc

Has to have three or even four syllables....Can anyone think of more names of this type...?

I think the baby might be blonde and I'm not sure Viviennes can be blonde!

scarlet I do agree with your DH about evangeline though!

What do people think of Aurelia, could have Lia as a nickname...

Theas18 · 24/02/2012 01:19

Aurelia is nice I guess.

If you give a long name it will be shortened which Is fine- but watch how many there are about - any ....Ella /Elle ending names will certainly have another in their class. Ditto Eva / evie type nick names.

Love cecily but do you want school friends shouting " Oi sess " ??

What if your girly named girl isn't girly in personality though? Have a think about a name that she can still grow into if she wants to be a motor mechanic - the pretty rosalind or rosalie can be a sweet " Rosie" when she's small and a rather stronger " roz" if she's that motor mechanic.

Also " frame" the name with a context and see if it sounds ok " doctor girly name bloggs" or " her honor justice girly name bloggs" as well imagining it shouted in the local accent across a school yard!

CheerfulYank · 24/02/2012 01:36

I really like Eleanora. :)

CalamityLame · 24/02/2012 14:28

I wouldn't call Aurelia 'Lia'. I think 'Lia' seems like a wrongly spelled 'Leah' (we do know someone whose DD is nicknamed 'Lia', though not shortened from Aurelia, and I really don't like it).

CalamityLame · 24/02/2012 14:29

Ophelia?

Hope88 · 24/02/2012 14:43

Aurelia is nice.

scarletforya · 24/02/2012 22:03

I like the sound of Leah though but I think Aurelia may be a little too frilly even for me.

Of them all the one I keep coming back to is Genevieve. The only thing putting me off is that people will shorten it to Jenny/Jen wont they? I have no problem with Jenny in itself, I like the name but unfortunately it reminds me of a very nasty ex collegue who I don't want to think about every time I say my daughters name.

If you call her Genevieve all the time, then other people will also call her by her full name. People do tend to follow the parent's lead. When she starts school, just tell them she doesn't answer to Jenny (which, after all, isn't her name).

As lovely as some abbreviations are, it seems a shame to me, to spend 9 months choosing a name you love, only to then accept everyone calling your child something entirely different to what you wanted.

SharkBite · 25/02/2012 08:26

Can you not shorten genevieve to Vivi? Obviously she may choose Jenny, but you have input into early years shortenings surely?

Nbut do make sur it has an unfussy shortening. Not all girls/women like the idea of being frilly.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 25/02/2012 08:47

Anything ending in -ette

Colette
Yvette

Etc

seeker · 25/02/2012 08:49

Eleanora. Then she can be Nell.

Evangeline- Eve

Clemency- Clem

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 25/02/2012 14:05

I think I've had a change of heart re a long multi syllable name.

I think I'd like to call her Clara. I'm pretty sure she is going to be fair haired and I think Clara suits a blonde child better than the others!

Clara Vivienne
Clara Genivieve
Clara Angeline

Her first cousin is Ciara, does anyone think that might be a problem, is Clara too close too Ciara ? Would you be annoyed if you had a Ciara and her cousins Mum called her Clara?

OP posts:
Kindling · 29/02/2012 19:35

How do they pronounce Ciara?

scarletforya · 29/02/2012 19:40

Like Kiera Knightly's name; Keer-A....

Do you think it's too close?

OP posts:
Dottymcdot · 29/02/2012 19:41

Gwendoline
Frederica
Gladys (know not long but is beautiful)

gen27 · 29/02/2012 21:22

Olivia is lovely, also like Isabella, and i think Bella is lovely as a shorter verison!

FeedZombieEatSmartie · 29/02/2012 21:28

Juliet.

If its already been mentioned and disregarded, apologies. I just think its a lovely name, one i would use if I have another and is a girl.

Kindling · 29/02/2012 22:08

I think Ciara pronounced Keira is quite different from Clara. Wouldnt bother me at all.

I love the name Clara too
