I am expecting baby no.3 in June, she will be the sister to Matilda and Archie. We had decided on Rosie India with the help of mumsnetters, but after meeting 3 young babies called Rosie in the church creche i am worried it may be to popular. DH says he likes Rosa, what do you prefer Rosa or Rosie.

Rose with rosie as Nn if you want. I do like rosa but don't think it sounds as pretty as rose/Rosie

nagynolonger · 21/02/2012 08:36

I like both also like Rosina. I don't know many little ones but two of the under fives are Rosies.

skyberry · 21/02/2012 08:55

Rose with Rosie as nn
I don't know any children called Rosie

Stellan · 21/02/2012 09:02

In approximate order of preference:

  1. Rose
  2. Rosie
  3. Rosalie
  4. Rosemary
  5. Rosa, Rosalind, Rosamund
Amaretti · 21/02/2012 09:04

Rosie is a nickname.

Ephiny · 21/02/2012 11:06

I prefer Rosa. You could always use Rosie as a nickname.

MamaBearCharlie · 21/02/2012 11:10

For me, Rosa is very pretty and more unusual than Rosie. I think it'll work better as an adult name too. Rosie for short as a child is lovely though!

I'm all for names that can be cute and short for babies, kids and teens but then when all grown up, they can use their full name (Florence/Florrie, Emily/Emmy, Alexandra/Lexi etc...)

HeeHeeHeeBum · 21/02/2012 11:12

I like Rosa a lot. I have also come across Rosalia which is pretty.

lottiegb · 21/02/2012 12:05

I like Rosa. Rosalind and Rosamund are lovely too.

is Archie an Archie or an Archibald?
If Archie you need something ,fuller, than Rosie IUSWIM IMHO

Frikadellen · 21/02/2012 12:27

Rosa is by far the prettiest imo

lilbreeze · 21/02/2012 12:35

LouMacca · 21/02/2012 12:37

Rosie

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/02/2012 12:38

Not Rosie too twee and it makes me think of the bloody Cbeebies program.

Rose is beautiful.

Hope88 · 21/02/2012 12:41

Rosalie

Southwest · 21/02/2012 12:47

how about India Rose
I think India is a cool first name and not nearly as common as Rose, Rose makes a great second name
India goes well with Tilly and Archie

Southwest · 21/02/2012 12:48

Oh sorry Tilda
I did think I was wrong and wanted to go back and check but not my computer so didnt

tildaandarchiesmummy · 21/02/2012 13:22

He is an Archie, what do you mean southwest?

Archie or Archibald wasn't I clear?
Rosie is (all in my humble opinion of course) a nickname as is Archie so if your Archie is Archie not Archibald then you are fine with a Rosie
If your Archie is Archibald then she/you met well think that a non nickname version of Rosie is better and she can then be called Rosie.

FWIW one playgroup I go to has had 2new baby Rose /Rosies since Christmas!!!
India Rose is nice

tildaandarchiesmummy · 21/02/2012 14:17

Yeah see i don't really like Rose as a name, so the decision would be between Rosa or Rosie. India Rose is nice bit am not sure if i like it enough, if you see what i mean. In Matilda's nursery class there are 3 Rosie's only one called Rosie though the others have double names such as Rosie Mae and the other is called Rosie-lillie, which i think is quite pretty.

defo Rosa. my cousin has a Rosa and she is the cutest little girl. At first i wasn't mad on it but now i think it's a gorgeous name!

SoozyWoozy · 21/02/2012 21:00

I have a Rosie so I am biased :)

We debated for days and days over her name, DH liked Ella but I didn't like it, and also didn't like Rosie Ella. We thought about Rosella for a while but it just wasn't right.

In the end we settled on Rosie, because she had the lovliest pink cheeks :) She still gets that lovely blush, so Rosie suits her perfectly. We call her Rosie Posy - she loves Roses as a flower too bless her :) She said that she would use Rose as a short name when she's older which is fine with me. I know one other Rosie, so not too popular here.

shouldnotbehere · 22/02/2012 12:16

Rosa

33goingon64 · 22/02/2012 13:03

I shouldn't say Rosa cos that's my number one name for a DD if I ever have one Grin. I think it beats Rosie long term cos I think of Rosie as a little girl's name, not a grown woman's name. Rosa Parks and Rosa Luxembourg are two very influential political icons. It works in Italian, Spanish and German as well as English.

Have you thought of Rosalie?

woolly76 · 22/02/2012 15:26

Rosa is beautiful, classic yet not too popular, its my choice for dd due any time now. You can always call her Rosie as a nn too its a legitamate nn for Rosa
