Please share some english sounding muslim names. We would like something that is easily pronounced but is still muslim or arabic origin. Many thanks.

a crossover name would be good, one that works in both languages. I don't want the child being bullied in school for a name that I choose..but at the same time I want it to be arabic or persian origin and good meaning. it's a shame a lot of the good names are already taken in the family, I liked Sofia and Zara, but they are already used.

Nora, Leila, Ines, Louisa (short for Lawza: almond), Mona, Sonia, Emma, Sarah, Mina, Myriam are all names given by the Arabic/French community in New York to their children and they are all Muslims so I guess that the names are Arabic (otherwise the children would have to change it).
I especially like Ines, Louisa and Myriam.

Kamilah (Camilla) is a lovely name which is pronounced almost identically in both Arabic and English.

Also love Amira, Nahla (means bumblebee :) ), Zahra. English speakers would just drop the 'h' and say naa-la, zaa-ra etc. I love Qamar which means moon but not very English sounding!

How about Soraya? I suppose it isn't the easiest to say but not hard either and I think it's lovely.

leena is lovely
just noticed youre Yasmin, i love that name (i never usually look at the names you see)

CoteDAzur · 09/06/2012 22:43

OP - Whichever name you choose, I suggest you take a moment to consider how to write it. For example, Dina and Miriam will probably look less foreign than Deena or Maryam.

Since you said you like names starting with A, how about:
Aleina/Aleena
Aya
Ayda

A few comments on names mentioned here:
Lara, Selen, and Deniz are Turkish names, not Muslim names
Ines is a French name

All from friends with British Muslim children.
