4 weeks to go and nothing is standing out for us in the same way as DD1's name:

Some that I love or like but can't use or DH has vetoed are

Helena, Alexandra, Anna, Dorothea, Flora, Georgia, Matilda, Phoebe, Caroline, Charlotte, Isabella, Philippa, Eleanor, Victoria, Emilia, Louisa

Last name begins with H so prefer to avoid alliteration.
Cant begin with L (DD is Lydia)
I prefer 3-4 syllables to go with last name best.
DH likes slightly 80s / americanised names like Amy, Cara, Summer, Skye

Here is our combined not very short list of names that hvent yet been ruled out but we are still hoping that we will find THE name that we both love.

Althea nn Allie or Thea
Anthea nn Annie or Thea
Antonia nn Annie - though massively dislike Toni
Amy
Cara
Catherine
Greta
Juliet
Marina
Susannah
Tabitha

Please rate these. Also ANY other suggestions? Please help!

From you list i'd pick:

Anthea nn Annie or Thea, but i'd have Athena with no nn.
Catherine
Greta
Juliet
Marina
Susannah

All lovely, at a push i'd pick Marina or Great.

Shame your DH has voted above list, some lovely names would you be able to use them for mn?

Robyn is American in origin - nice outdoorsy feel to it IMO.

Catherine will probably become Kate, which I also like.

Gabriella/Gabby (which can turn to Gobby - my DH uses to refer to a particularly vociferous acquaintance of ours - so be warned!)

Littlecherublegs · 17/02/2012 10:22

Althea - dont like
Anthea - dont like
Antonia - ok
Amy - not keen
Cara - like
Catherine - nice, would prob get shortened to Kate
Greta - dont like
Juliet - pretty
Marina - no
Susannah - nice
Tabitha - cats name IMO (sorry!)

Other suggestions:
Abigail
Cora
Carla
Bethany
Coraline
Scarlett
Saffron
Serena
Dominique
Cassandra (Cassie)
Victoria
Martha

I know 2 Lydia's and they have sisters Amelia (Milly) and Danielle

Cara.

manicinsomniac · 17/02/2012 12:14

Althea nn Allie or Thea - I'm not keen on Althea but really like both Allie and Thea
Anthea nn Annie or Thea - Don't like Anthea or Annie but Thea's lovely
Antonia nn Annie - It's ok. I actually prefer Toni to Annie
Amy - Love it
Cara - Quite nice
Catherine - Like it,it has some nice nicknames too
Greta - not sure. Probably wouldn't use it for a British child
Juliet - Lovely
Marina - a place you put boats? Is this a name?
Susannah - It's pretty but don't like Susie or Sue
Tabitha - It's ok

I would use Amy or Juliet from your list, possibly both - Amy Juliet sounds lovely.

Thanks all for replies and suggestions.

Shame about Marina and the mooring meaning - it's such a pretty sound. Also love Serena but have a cousin named this.

Does Amy sound quite eighties to you or is it just me?

Catherine, Juliet or Susannah. Don't like Althea, Anthea, Antonia (all sound quite 'hard' and masculine to me) and don't like Tabitha.

manicinsomniac · 17/02/2012 21:52

Amy doesn't sound too 80s to me. I know 3 under the age of 13.

There were 2 in my year at school (born 1983) but that doesn't mean anything, I think Amy's always been steadily popular.
