Hi all - our DD is due to arrive in 10 weeks time and we are struggling with names. We want a classic traditional name, but I am a bit fussy and so is DH... Our surname is 1 syllable beginning with B so I would like a name that shortens into 2 syllables. We have a DS Alexander James

Some names we like but aren't sold on any to give you an idea are:

Abigail
Sarah
Sadie
Samantha
Phoebe
Sasha - but this is a nickname for Alexander so can't use
India - doesn't go with surname
Emily - bit too popular
Amelia - too many of them around
Charlotte - can't use
Emma - can't use

Can anyone provide any inspiration please?? We are at a loss (and I won't call her Chelsea which is DH's suggestion after his football team.... I thought he was joking although he does seem to be increasingly serious)....

Thanks!

I have a Florence (Flossie or just Flo), an Amelia (Milly) and an Elizabeth (Lizzie).

My sister's twin grandchildren: Anya and Erin- also like Lydia and Isla. Think you want traditional names, so like the ones already suggested, Catherine, Helena, Anna, Francesca, Bryonie (might not go with your B last name) there are some very pretty Irish names - Caitlin (very popular and has already been mentioned) but Onya, Soircha (pronounced Sorsha) Roisin (pronounced Rowsheen, Ayshling and the scottish Fiona I think is pretty.

Beatrice. Wish I'd have used that for dd. She has a lovely, classic name but do love Beatrice.

there are some lovely suggestions on here, thank you ladies! I really like a lot of them, will discuss with DH. And it seems that no-one thinks they are boring, just beautiful traditional names. I was worried that some of them were popular when we were at school e.g. Sarah, Rebecca, but now are seen as a bit 80's...

I love Matilda - I'm just not sure if it's a bit 'Australian' considering DH is australian and we live in Sydney... also Phoebe, lovely name.
